Who here likes Rubik's cubes? I have been very interested in Rubik's cubes and similar puzzles lately and I have been watching videos on how to solve them, even though I don't have one. I finally ordered one and it is coming tomorrow. Is anyone here very good at solving them? What is your best time? What is your favorite method to solve them?
Currently still practicing F2L. If you're starting, I suggest you learn the beginner's method first. Then, slowly advance. A good guide to the beginner's method is at rubik's website. My best time is 29 seconds. In the cubing community, they're called personal best, or PB's. I have many different cubes, they're all very fun. Once you get into it, it's.... I don't know, time consuming? Also, after you understand and get good with the beginner's method, start learning CFOP.
I bought this rubik's cube (the official rubik's cube) because it was the cheapest one I could find. I don't know how good it is, but I probably will get a better one when I get good at it. 29 seconds is a very good personal best. How long have you been cubing? Also, I was already planning to learn the beginner method first, but I didn't know about CFOP as a method to learn next, so thank you.
I've been cubing for quite a while(probably 2 years now), have many different cubes, as said before. I have a 3x3x2 cuboid coming soon Though, once you get good, or learn the beginner's method, really try to get a different cube, as rubik's brand cubes are terrible turning. Try MoYu, a very good company of speed cubes. I would suggest the MoYu Aolong v2, which is a lot of people's main.
Do you have any tips for memorizing algorithms? I solved it a few times with a tutorial but I will have to memorize a lot of algorithms to do it on my own. Do I just solve it a lot of times?
Honestly you kinda just get used to it. I'm still learning f2l. My fastest time is roughly 1 min. Also I would recommend getting a speed cube. Like Bot said the MoYu cubes are really nice. I have 2 speed cubes and a regular Rubik's brand cube and tbh I hate the Rubik's brand (sorry just imo). Ive also got a 4 by 4 speed cube and one thin you do not want to do with a 4 speed cube is take it apart lol. It takes quite a while for me to put it back together plus there is some kind of lube they put on it which makes the pieces harder to grip when you're putting them together. So yeah. I would recommend you buy a speed cube. It's not much more expensive than the one you're buying.
Ok thanks. I will stick with this cube until I get good at the beginner method and then I will probably get a speed cube. Also, if I buy a speed cube, should I buy lube?
When I was a beginner, the Rubik's brand was a good, but as you get more advanced you should buy a speed cube. Personally, I prefer my speed cubes they way they arrive, I've never added lube to them and they work great
My best is a bit under a minute, but someone stole my speed cube XD School. Omfg. What's funny is whoever did it probs doesn't know how to solve it. But still. R.I.P. Also my method to solve it is all off my head, I kinda made it. But you can look on Youtube for a guide XD
I can make mine look dismantled. totally not after raging over the fact I'll never solve it, amirite.
My best time is I think 51 seconds, but I average about 1 minute 15 seconds. I have the Dayan Zhanchi (duh), but I just do the beginner's method modified. I want to learn CFOP but I haven't touched it yet.
