Yeah, in bushland. I've figured the bird is a laughing turtle dove, but where I am (SA) we generally only get the spotted turtle doves (more in the 'burbs). Those laughing ones look so cute though, I'm jealous ;-;
In your picture, the pidge is fluffed up and sitting down maybe even cooing, making it look fatter. When they're standing and on the move, they look skinnier. There are only two kinds of turtle dove (or at least the genus I'm thinking of) in Australia, and that pidge doesn't have spots so It's definitely a laughing. Also, all the other patterns seem to match. I think it is a laughing turtle dove
Birds are good. I go out and catch birds (for environment recording) each weekend and I read bird books in my spare time. I also read bird Wikipedia pages when I'm bored. But I'm not half as bad as my friend, she knows 200 scientific bird names off by heart.
