This topic has come up in my mind recently, and has got me wondering ever since. When players say they do not see each other online because of different timeszones or if they don't see each other online even though they are in the same time zone, this really got me thinking. The thing is, its not just timeszones that play alart when seeing a player online. You could be in the central time zone in Minnesota, and also be in the same timezone in Vietnam, but be 12 hours apart. If someone says: "We are in the same timezone, but I never see you online" does this statement show that a player is not active? I don't believe so. For darns sake, you could be awake when the other person is asleep! I would like to hear your opinions on this topic. Thank you.
I think schedules play a far bigger role in times online than timezones do. I'm in EST, but I hardly see anyone from my timezone even though it has some of the most players because of my schedule.
To be honest, I don't understand why people say "timezones?" in mod applications. I mean, you know yours and their timezones. Why are you so confused about it?
I thought about this too. Timezones do make a difference, but people have different schedules. Some people have school and some don't, some have work, some are night owls or early birds, etc.
I agree with this statement, instead of just saying "We are in the same timezone and I never see you online" players should look at the schedule provided. ^^ Maybe they are just assuming it's because of their time zones, but then again, it's not just that 1 variable that come to place when seeing when a player is online.
They absolutely make a difference, but in your point of view is it just time zones? Just because you are in the same time zones doesn't mean when you are online you should see them online too. Like I said, a person could be in the Central time zone in Minnesota, and never see a player in the same time zone in that state, if they were in Vietnam.
Yep, exactly. Just because I'm in the same timezone as someone, doesn't mean I'll always see them online
Why do people just guess if they're in different time zones? I mean you know your time zone and you read the other person's time zone, it's not hard. It pesters me when people assume your time zone differences.
I do not believe they are guessing, more like just unsure. I honestly do not know why they are unsure though.
Exactly. Its mostly schedules, because during the summer holidays, I woke up 6 pm and stayed awake till 7 am, all about your schedule.
I agree that it's probably better to give them the benefit of the doubt if you never see someone online, rather than accusing them of inactivity immediately. An example is myself and roblox - we are in the same time zone but moderate at different times. Although we do see each other online a lot, most of the time we are offset. He goes to school and moderates after school on most days. I work weird hours and sometimes moderate early morning or middle of the day, or late at night :Hilarious:
I suppose in terms of timezones, you'd assume the hours people are most active on average might be from 5-9pm, so if you don't see them in the country's prime time, then they may be inactive. However, as Kerahna said, it depends on the player's schedule.
That's exactly why there is the question "what's your timezone" in mod applications. Still, people don't give a crap ._.
As for me, I always try to /seen people to check their last activity time. Just one moment - you have to switch between survival and economy servers to find people that play on both servers. Having that information in mind you could decide is this gap between you due to timezone or not.
I find it smart and all to put a time zone down, but we need to make a list and try to get at least one mod in each group of time zones that are close. There are not any mods on my time zone (That a know of), so there are many cases that I see a lot that needs to be done, but can't be fixed. What do you all think?
I don't go to classes every day. Most days if I log-in in the morning I see the European timezone rebels staying up into the early morning, and the USA timezone people getting ready to have dinner or chilling in the evening. Then by afternoon i see most of my aussie and nz friends, and later in the evening i meet up with those europeans who dont have school. If i stay up past midnight i get to see euro school aged players. Timezones do play a large part but the schedules people have are also important. I agree, we cannot expect someone to be on just because they are in your timezone. Which renders comments in mod apps saying "I dont see you very much and we are in similar timezones" useless.
