Not really? There are 4 main types of difficult players: griefers, spammers, scammers and rude players. That is what a moderator will most likely deal with, any other situations will most likely be rare. So it will be mostly always in a template like that.

It's a waste in her eyes as she looks back, but not to others. You can have a balance, you know.

Again, most of the people are addictive and getting more and more connected to Minecraft or other games may be dangerous. Someone can't keep the balance for the long time and soon or late the situation becomes unstable.

I'm going to have to go for an hour so I might as well rap up my point for now:
Moderating must look like a waste in your eyes based on your comments, however plenty of people need Mods so its not a waste in their eyes. Its just your opinion maybe if you put some facts in that prove we are good without moderators then maybe I could look at this in a different way.

    Agreed.
Again, people find a gap and try to fill it by putting other things in front of it. That's something that people can't control, and they have a hard time getting rid of that addiction. People are afraid to face their addiction, which is what makes it worse. Most of the people have an addiction problem, but when they're addicted, it's extremely hard to live without it. If they can't distance yourself, you can't blame them. Connections in their brain make them think they need that thing in their life to live.

This thread is not a rant about that server is not required in moderators, it is about the question would candidates really spend their time helping random strangers on the Internet. I do not support anarchy at all.

Finally a point that I can agree with.

If it's not valuable to them, then people don't need these things.

Now you took that just of context. We were comparing real help with virtual help. Obviously real help is more valuable than virtual and will be most likely remembered by people for the long time, unlike virtual.

Yes, that's true. Real life help is more valuable than virtual help. I did take that out of context, and I apologize for that. However, you said that your help is not valuable at all, meaning it's not even useful.
Is that what you meant, or am I misreading?

Okay, to certain people your help may be useful, however, compared to real help, your help is not valuable at all.
I guess we can agree to stop here because this thread will go in circles as you have your own views on moderators and I have my own.

So I just finished reading all the comments and everything.
I now feel like everything I do is a waste of time.

Chi, it's your decision if you want to go for mod or not. People just have different opinions. C:

It's not really the mod thing, it's more that I spend an unhealthy amount of time online.

I like discussions like these; even if I don't exactly agree with everything you've said, you've definitely livened up forums a bit. ;P

People always say this, it's just a number, just pixels on a screen; but behind those pixels is a real, live, breathing and feeling person. You say that virtual help doesn't compare to real help, but your arguments seem to be comparing rather physical and mental necessities. You say that giving someone food to survive is more important than telling someone not to kill themselves. In that situation, not really, they're pretty much the same. What you refer to as 'virtual' help basically constitutes having a friend, and what's wrong with making people feel better? Helping in real life and helping on the server are not mutually exclusive, you know.

I'm not going to post my GPA here, but let me just say it's high by any definition. I moderated here for over a year and maintained over the entire period. You just need to know balance and self-discipline; video games are not necessarily addictive if you don't let them be.

Well, we have governments for a reason, as previously stated, although between you and me, I didn't entirely enforce the rules I found unjust. Demote me.

See, I had this thought at first, too, but he said 'happy and rich.' Robin Williams was definitely rich, but evidently not happy.

I however don't agree with the point that only mentally unstable players apply for moderator or just play Minecraft in general. I have tons of friends in real life, but I can't hang out with a lot of them outside of school, so over Minecraft, I am able to make more friends and keep in touch with them, as well. In other words, it was a supplement, not a substitute. I've made tons of friends on this server, even loved a few players both as family and romantically, but it does not mean I don't do the same in real life. It's just a different medium.

As a whole, with regards to the moderating, I applied because I had been helping people as a donor for a while and it was really fun. At first, I actually didn't want to be mod because I thought that if I gave people stuff, I'd be being biased. All in all, the experience DEFINITELY impacted my life. My time moderating helped me greatly when I received a job as a camp counselor, dealing with children age 8 and their issues, and I'm sure it will help me in the future.

I do not regret the time I spent as a moderator. It added to my character and made me who I am. I do not wonder whether I could be better without having done it, because I'd take a whole new world of friends over a hypothetical point on my GPA any day.

I enjoyed my time moderating, but I just frankly didn't have the time for it. School, job, irl friends, relationships, sports, etc. Moderating just got in the way of it all and I had to resign.

Honestly? No. I had my application up for almost a year. It had over 400 replies and about 10 k views and it was never accepted. (This is when I was still active).
