We should make a ten (or less) day probationary period for posting in the forums to stop these stupid spun articles. So you can't post for a couple days after making an account. I know you've all seen stuff like:

"As a explicit art fashionable for an advertising organization, you will job to assist put up for auction customers' crop and/or armed forces to their aim marketplace by your original skill and technological ability. Your skills and ability will be used to put the clients' offerings and brand image in the best possible light, whether through television, the Internet or various print mediums."

A probationary period would stop this nonsense. This will also give people time to read posts and rules before posting.

Or we could have a different kind of captcha for signing up, similar to the ones on the voting websites.

I see where you're coming from, however that would cause a lot of issues. If someone wanted to appeal a ban, they'd have to wait a few days. It could also just be mega inconvenient, for example I had to make a new account, and not being able to post until a few days later would have absolutely killed me. So, no.

No support sorry, but as lycel said, it would be inconvenient if someone were to make a ban appeal. Moderators do a good job at preventing crap that fake accounts post.

Maybe make it so anyone can post in the ban appeal section?

Hmmm, it can be difficult to just 'throw' these things in, could take some time to develop. would just be easier without it man. Was a good suggestion though.

    No, don't...

Capatcha's are very useful and easy to complete the majority of the time. This would be great.

I'm still awestruck that we don't have Captcha's yet for forum posting...

I think they should add a Captcha when you make a forums account because all advertisments from spam bots are annoying.

    For every post? No thanks.

    For making a thread? Perhaps.

Captchas would be very useful for the server, we should get that and block log.

There aren't usually spambots, and when there are staff can easily take care of it. (if there are a lot of spambots, the staff are doing a good job of eliminating them.) No support.

Sean had an idea on this exact matter that would be very handy and stop spambots :) Zambiana :)
10 days is very long for non bots. The idea (and i cannot for the life of me remember) either was approving the account, or approving a users first post so they can continue posting if they are legit members. This would stop troll accounts that come online just to post stupid stuff and spambots.

But generally each bot account only posts once.

Why not just use a captcha, to prevent bots joining in the first place? Easier on the mods.

because some bots are human controlled so they can do the captcha. There is a captcha and by approving, it means the post wont be visible until a mod approves it, so that means we just ban the bot accounts before they post, keeping the forums clean.

Not every post. (I see forums that do this s*** it's crazy)

And captchas would stop Spambots, as Muru_sph said. It doesn't matter if the mods take care of it, we don't want them, AT ALL and it would keep mods sorting out reports and appeals ect. rather than waste their time on a bot. And also krissy's idea would work too!

Adding captchas wouldn't necessarily stop all spam bots. As Krissy said, some advertisers are human and complete captchas there for they will still be able to post threads
