hey guys, and especially mods, I notice a lot of people being kicked/muted/tempbanned/banned for saying in chat # skyblock.net I'd awesome #, I would like to clear some things up with the mods that don't know yet. I was muted for typing that in chat, when I actually only wrote 123456789, and it came out as 12 # skyblock net is awesome # #skyblock net is awesome #89. So guys, for example in the ban appeal here, this guy was banned for advertising. I am not saying he didn't, but in other examples like this people may only be doing number or similar spam in chat, which, in my view, only needs a kick or mute for spam, not a ban for *maybe advertising* Thanks. If there is anything mods can see extra that I cant, and can clear up anything I may of written as wrong, that would also be a great help.
Muted is when you are no longer allowed to 'speak' in Global Chat (or possibly any chat). So if you type something it doesn't 'say' it to everyone else or yourself. You can still use commands, I believe, and messaging people does work, I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.
We all know Skyblock.net is awesome. Spam=Lag (in some instances) So if someone spams "Skyblock is awesome", they could be potentially lagging the server that they love so dearly. Show your love for Skyblock in a pixel art. Make beautiful builds! Love the server with your masterpieces!
We usually ban for that when someone says something like "Join this server!!" or a server port after it.
It comes out as #skyblock.net is awesome# even when someone types (yeah I've made that mistake) Personally I never banned unless something happened as larry said. If someone mentions it like "Johnny, the IP is #skyblock.net is awesome#, or "Hey guys, is legit server ip down?" (the one where it takes out the dots from a text ip), usually a kick does the job. If they continue, they're advertisers and obviously need to be banned. That's how I've always seen it.
Just dont spam numbers. We can tell whos advertising and whos not. If your not then you usually wont be kicked. But if you are, its just a warning not to. Anyone who tries and advertises and is filtered, will be kick warned and banned for continuing. If they get banned by accident, thats fine a mod will accept that. We are human and will make mistakes.
This should have some sort of protocol. Like Vikki said, it does create a potential for spam. I don't doubt that people have warned them not to advertise, but it doesn't "technically" fall under that category. There should an action list such as: Mute (x3), kick (x2), temp ban (x1), perm ban I determined the number per action just because it is less of an offence than advertising or spamming. Normally it is not meant, Like Fluttershy and Lycel said, but it is still possible to get kicked for "spam" or something likewise apparently. I think this might be a better approach on this, what do the rest of you guys think?
The action list for spam is usually Kick (x3), mute (10m, then 30m, then 1h, then 1 day). Continuation after that would be several days mute. For server advertisement, it would be 1 kick then a ban. But it always depends on the moderator online.
Yea, I know that, but it isn't technically considered spam ALL of the time. More so when they do it more than once, but being that Greenies don't normally read the rules, they may try to say it more than once and get frustrated that it's not doing what they wanted. They also don't normally head Donors but are swiftly banned because they are reported by a Donor. Whatever the case, there is some opinion for whoever is online to ban, mute, or kick. I'm just saying that there should be a followed protocol because this is kinda "on the fence" if you understand that.
I agree having some sort of ruled out punishment. Some mods say things are illegal when others say it isn't (example being the pink rocket banners), some ban and confiscate, others fully allow
Back when I was mod, there was this really annoying donor kid on mineverse that wouldn't leave me alone. He was just acting really immature. He decides to spam 888888, and it did the filter for advertising. I was just kind of looking for a reason to get rid of him at that point, but moral of the story, mods are allowed to ban for it and they should. We technically don't know for sure if they aren't advertising. They shouldn't get banned right away like I did (whoops hehe), but after a warning if they are stupid enough to continue they deserved to be banned.
Often times the intent can be gathered from the context of the rest of the sentence. If someone says "join my server # skyblock is awesome#" then it's likely to be an advertiser. If someone says "drop party in # skyblock is awesome" then they're likely just counting down all at once. I'm sure you get the idea, nothing is perfect. Not the pwnfilter, nor the mods. That's why there's an appeal section in case mods do make a mistake (though we usually don't" Bans are usually reserved for advertisers, while mutes and kicks for people who spam or try to purposely get around the pwnfilter
Hopefully this answers ur question Lemme know if it does and we can move it into the appropirate section.
