#2 of What Happens When Link: What Happens When... #2 [FACTS] | Skyblock Forums What happens when you sleep? First, let's talk about what sleep does for us. Sleep effects how we look, perform, and feel everyday. These things effect our overall quality in life. If we don't get enough sleep for the night, our body won't have time to complete the phases for muscle repair, memory consolidation, and the release of hormones that regulate the growth of our appetite. So, what really happens when we sleep? Well, we go through the stages of NREM(Non-Rapid Eye Movement). There are 4 stages in all that could happen to us when we sleep(%75 night): 1. Being half awake and half asleep / light sleeping 2. Becomes disengaged from surroundings, Breathing & Heart rate regulate, & Body temperature drops 3 & 4. Deepest sleep, Breathing is extremely slow, Muscles are very relaxed, Blood supply to the muscles increase, tissue growth & repair happens, Energy is restored completely, & Growth hormones are released If I had to choose, I would like to sleep in stages 3 & 4 every night but unfortunately this brings us to our next part of sleeping. So, now we have REM(Rapid Eye Movement). This occurs %25 of the night and occurs every 90 minutes you are asleep: 1. Given energy to brain and body 2. Supporting of daytime performance 3. Dreams occur and brain is active 4. Eyes dart back and forth(hence the name REM) 5. Body is relaxed and muscles are turned off Tip: Teens need 81/2 to 91/4 hours of sleep each night. Those are the things that occur while we sleep, but sleeping is a big part of our daily life and our immune system. If we are sleep deprived, we may tend to eat more and gain extra unwanted weight. How some people call sleeping "unproductive" is actually what we should be calling a big part of our daily life creating how energetic and successful we are. So remember to always get the sleep that you need to live a more healthy lifestyle to meet your expectations! Thanks for reading What Happens When...
