Today I found a thread on a different forum about drop parties and if this is correct then I think there should be a new way of giving out special event heads. ------------------------- "People seem to always ask me for drop parties but they simply do not work and I shall explain why briefly here in the simplest way possible. All players currently on the server are stored in a list and each server tick every player in this list is ticked. Each tick, the game checks which items are nearby to each player and then runs the item pickup code if the item is close enough. This player list however is in a particular order and the players position in this list actually dictates who will get the item first. A player at the start of the list will always have priority and will be able to pick up items before anyone else providing they are close enough to them. This is why some people at drop parties never get anything, and some people get the loads. Hopefully this clears stuff up." ----------------------------- I never get anything from drop parties and I guess this is why. I have never managed to get anything whatsoever and I reckon there needs to be a different way of giving out special event heads. If this is true then I guess this gives the number 1 player in the list priority. What are your opinions on this?
Possibly like something like random.org but I guess more professional I'm not sure but if there is a better way of doing it, then we should definitely change over if it gives more of a fair chance for everyone. I'm sick of turning up to dozens of drop parties and always leaving empty handed. This theory has my backing as I have seen it before where 1 person leaves with most of the loot.
Why is it that sometimes I get really lucky and pick up heads, but other times I get nothing? Just wondering
Do players who log into the server first (after a restart) get priority? How does one get priority on the list?
I would say I was never lucky enough to get anything good from a drop party. I did suggest one way of handling drop parties for special events. We fill out an entry form, Our names go into random.org more easy is numbers. Then those picked will go to their island and find a lovely chest with a prize inside locked to them. Simply the best way to handle this type of competition. Also make a broadcast to link people to the competition thread so people that dont have accounts and are new can join in. Also this makes it fair to all timezones. Instead of waking up at 4am for a drop party and facing lagging server, everything is organised.
That would be great, but then only mods could do drop parties? How would a regular player get a chest on another players island; would they just contact a mod?
Simply, Cyp can easily find peoples islands and put the players name on the first line of the lockettes meaning he would easily be able to put the chests on the players islands, the players can remove the chest themselves. Thats only if he would have the time and patience to do that.
Yes this would be a good idea! It also allows those that aren't donor to have a chance of picking up a head when the server is full.
Should this be in suggestions? Or are you just answering peoples questions like why they never get anything on DP's so it's in discussion?
I don't know enough about the mechanics of the game to say if it works that way or not. I always thought it to be a matter of ping, since it's the game client that actually does the picking and reporting to the server more than the server does the random choosing but I do see the merit of having a random.org type event. Too often I see people standing in 1 corner and dropping stuff, try to move around, to force people to follow you hopefully that'll help with the issue of some people getting most of the drops
Yes even though this would mean that it is more fair, people are still getting an advantage if they are top of the list. If they did this then yes people have more of a chance but the whole point of the thread is to allow everyone have an even chance. People should be allowed the same chance with winning heads as everyone else.
