If you get annoyed, then don't bid.

In my opinion it depends on the scenario. If someone says that theres a 50% chance of a diamond or something there must actually be chance involved. Same thing if you are auctioning a rare item, the item must actually be rare, in some way, it cant be a piece of cobble or anything. other than that I guess its up to the player to decide whether to bid or not. A basic rule of thumb is that if the player isnt rich, then chances are they wont have this "mystery rare item" they speak of.

I was ripped off, paying 3 diamonds for a diamond pick. The message went along the lines of :
'Mystery Auction! High chance of a rare! HB: 0' So i bid and won a god dia pick....
The seller said its worth 3 dia cause thats what it takes to make, when everyone knows thats a lie. I also point out that he obviously just decided when the auction was complete what the mystery item would be.
I dont like pointing out names and im over it now, but macklemore if you remember this id be interested to hear your input.

So in conclusion, 100% SUPPORT the removal of mystery auctions.

I think you are taking your own risk to do bid. No support. ^^

As others have said, if you have an issue with the mystery trade idea, then simply don't bid.

I've never bid on one because I just assume that I will get ripped off. If you have the same assumption, then don't bid. Otherwise, bid to your heart's content. No support for this one.

Imo, it's an "at your own risk" thing. Nobody is going to force you to bid, if you bid a diamond for something worth nothing, it's your own fault. :l

    TL;DR

    Illegal:
All in all, if someone makes it seem like there's a chance involved, there has to be a legit chance (dispensers).
If they say a rare item, it has to be considered "rare", not something you could just up and get right away by yourself.

    Legal:
If they say that the item starts with something, and make it as close to another item as possible (ex: Diamond -> Diamond Pickaxe), then you're choice to risk that.

Yes, it's bannable to do the "illegal" ones, as they're considered scamming, and that, as you all know, is against the rules.

    Gg.

I dislike mystery auctions. most of them are actually designed to make a lot of profit on useless items. The problem is people keep on bidding of mystery auctions. Unfortunately its not like there is an auction plugin that needs to be removed, however cyp may consider adding mystery auctions as a bannable offence under scamming if he sees fit.
But for now, I think if you ever see a mystery auction appear, warn people against bidding, help the players not be scammed. And treat every mystery auction as if the item is cheap and bid accordingly. Why do people need mystery auctions if they are being honest.
im going to say no support, since the original idea isnt something that can happen, but hopefully mystery auctions can be classified as scamming and mods can deal with it.

"Official" - Written by a player.

Half of those rules don't make sense, but are there to just read. However scamming spreads over a broad list of things.
