I may be the only person that feels this way, but all the locked channels that mods continuously keep making just annoy me. For 1, it makes me feel isolated because all my friends are usually in one of these locked channels and 2, if a mod moves me in one I have to ask them to move me back if I decide to leave to say hi to a friend. Honestly I don't see the point why people feel special as to having personal locked channels. Mods shouldn't have permission to make these because at the moment I already see 4 locked channels. Really? You need 4? My god.
Rainbow Room, Lopkz, and Rawr... Some really useful channels right there. Aaand most of my ts friends are on Rawr but oh wait that one is locked. -.-
But but I'm too shy to poke someone for that fine, next time I'll gather my courage and just do it xD
Then if I want to leave to another channel for a minute I have to poke someone again and most times they ignore me. It just seems as locked channels have no purpose.
I never gave moderator permissions to create channels, as far as I know it was Kato/NiH. I don't deal with Teamspeak permissions so talk with them.
We can?! wow! cool! I must try it next time I get on. Anyway. I don't think that the privileges should be taken away, but I do think that there should be more active people in the public channels because right now, if a new person gets on, chances are there will be tons of people in private channels and no one to talk to which isn't a very inviting experience for a noobie.
Regarding the locked channels, NiH and myself believed that granting donors the ability to create channels was a perk that they should receive for donating to the server, since they have no extra perks other than being able to play music in the music channels from the guest rank, as well as most players who go on TS are donors to begin with. Furthermore the private channels are to eliminate people from having those they do not want to enter their channel enter. You can simply ask them for the password if you intend on moving around a lot. More reasons for this are that we are attempting to negate normal players from being in moderator channels, as those are for staff only and without this they lack any proper private channels to talk amongst themselves and their friends. We have given moderators the ability to enter these locked channels as to possibly handle any negative situations that could come out of these extra permissions being given to donors. As of right now I have yet to see players actually "abuse" the command in anyway, so it will most likely stay this way for the time being, unless NiH, or myself believe we should change up the rules we have just created and thus the perms as well. The issue with our teamspeak is that most of the players who go onto it are regulars to the TS and thus they usually have a niche of players they hang around. Likewise many players want private channels to secluded themselves from large channels of players, since those can get rowdy and extremely loud very fast. So in the end as I have previously stated just ask for the password to the channel, so that way you can easily come and go if you want to speak with other players in other channels, since as of right now we are not removing their perms to create private channels, since it gives the players an option to talk with only a certain group of friends, possibly for certain private conversations. I hope this has helped answer your question and any other further TS questions you may ask me right here and I'd be glad to answer them in - depth so you can see the reasoning behind our current decisions to change up the TS server.
I agree with you kato, although I have seen some very unnecessary channels, I've seen one person make a channel called "<name> AFK" and it was just them afk in it with a mic muted, I have also seen people in their own channels with no one else and their mics muted. Which just seems like an unnecessary channel, but the thing I thought was really unnecessary, there was a channel named something like "Friends channel - Everyone is welcome" and it was just an open channel, not any different than a regular channel. I don't think there is a need for channels like these.
Well those are the times when it needs to be reported to a moderator, as those channels, while they are able to make them, are abuse of their perms and they should be warned. If anything you may use the complaint command on that player, as I check the complaints list everyday for possible complaints. If a player continues to do this, they can have their perms to make custom channels removed.
I dont usually get bothered, I usually just poke them for an invite. If the room has one person in it, i think its stupid to have a private channel created for afk. No different to muting speaker and mic really. Sometimes people need to talk privately and skype is not exactly the best, so its about getting that balance. Kato is spot on (obviously) report people who abuse the perms. As for the other things, well im really shy 2, but its not too hard t0 ask a good friend to get you added. Some private channels are exclusive and this would probably be the only time you wont be included. But many private channels are to control the noise and have a place where people cant randomly join.
I'm glad that you've explained the reasoning behind donor's having the ability, and I guess I'll just ask for a password however I do want to make one more suggestion (if possible) to make donors have the ability to edit/delete their own channels.
I honestly thought they already could. I'll look into the perms and edit them so they can edit/delete their own channels. Thanks for the suggestion.
What Kato said And if anyone creates an offensive named channel. Report them, or contact a mod to edit it.
