Recently I've seen a lot of complaints from a number of users, either voiced directly to me in-game, or through their various moderator applications that "the mods are few and far between, and ignore all the users asking questions". We don't, oh, trust me we don't.

Let me break it down for you guys, and explain it from the moderator's perspective:
The chat is a constantly active aspect of Skyblock, and we know that a large number of players have already beaten every single challenge and are here solely because our community is unique and keeps people coming back. With a chat that rolls over your screen like that, there is a surprising amount of messages being transmitted back and forth (well over a few thousand every hour). This is only talking about the messages that the regular user can see, so that means public chat, broadcasts, voting updates and the likes. With the number of messages being transmitted, the second you attend to something relevant in the game, you lose touch with the chat or at least a large number of the messages.

This means that a lot of the messages we simply don't see, because there is so much going on constantly, and while you - as a regular user - can choose to ignore the chat completely for stretches of time, we can't. We have to attend to every call for help, which means we're most constantly busy, and once we're busy, we don't notice everyone else calling for help. You're sensing the delicate cycle that puts us in, right?

To add to that, we get a ton of PMs constantly asking for our assistance as well, whether it's a bridger or a griefer, or somebody just has absolutely no clue how to use their mob spawner. General questions relating to Minecraft (such as light levels, how to build what and whatnot, what blocks do, or what things are worth on SB) we generally leave up to the general users to respond to, as they often know just as well or even better than us. But every time someone calls "help", we have to attend to them as well as we can. This means that we spend 90% of our online time helping out, and that leaves only 10% of the time for keeping an eye on the chat. Once in a while we're lucky and catch another message, but it's not reasonable to expect us to catch them all.

Then comes the time when the trial-moderators are promoted to full moderators and get access to /socialspy. That's where it gets horrible. This means we'll see every single PM as well, sent from everyone to everyone else. This kicks the rate of messages up into the tens of thousands every hour, leaving even more for us to manage and sort through. If you think your chat is fast now, imagine it moving at four times the pace, with tons of junk messages in between (like "Artie: /pm kirakitty omg bought an iPad"). This is a serious issue for the staff team, because our numbers aren't large enough to accommodate such a chat spam and still keep tabs on everything that goes on.

Long story short: I guarantee you that every staff member is giving their job on Skyblock every last grain of dedication and energy, but there's simply too much going on for us to attend to everything at once. Please be patient with the mods. If we don't answer your call for help, try again 10 minutes later.

TL;DR - We're only so many mods, there are tens of thousands of messages going on constantly and PM cries for help. We can't attend to everyone at once as much as we want to. If we don't answer your PM, wait 10 minutes and try again.

Today was 5 mods on to cover a lot of issues for the sever. Over 100 people. Do the math. Thats one mod to 20 people, and assuming more than one needs help. plus include other duties its a wild ride. That could change. Sometimes there is one mod for 200 people (yes it happens, been there).
If you can't get to a mod, report your problem on the forums, or wait patiently. You will not be ignored. Don't make a big fuss either. That doesn't help use see to you faster, it means we need extra time calming the chat chaos.

We are actually just ignoring you.

If you have some issues just wait until a staff member is free.

Don't know how to quote messages but that happened to me too Dooku333

    But by making this thread...
Players are being educated about what mods are doing in-game and asked to be more patient and understanding with the mods.

This is a great thread. You obviously put a lot of time into conveying your message.

There will always be people who expect you to stop everything you're doing to help them. Patience is a learned skill that requires a particular type of focus. Being patient is about becoming aware of your emotions and of learning ways to cope in the interim.

I hope your thread raises self-awareness and opens the doorway to better communication between players.

I'm not sure I understood that post. Are you agreeing with me, or asking us to be more transparent in the chat when we're flooded in PMs?

Even as a normal player on net, the chat flows up very quickly. It is hard for one mod or even a few mods to handle all the players on the server.

I have the same problem, just with different staff. I feel like they sometimes go AFK without telling us. I'm fine with, but at the same time, if a new player happened to join and ask for help, it would be easier for the new player to see that the Mod is AFK if he's in /afk

^ that was such a ramble.

Well if Merks added it in, the TMods could do it.

Although I agree, they should tell people when they are going AFK .

I completely agree with this thread. I understand that mods are very busy because sometimes, when I msg a mod, I almost instantly get a completely irrelevant reply, showing that they are talking to multiple people.

I know it's been said a thousand times over, but you only really need a mods help if it involves breakages of the rules. Anything else can be asked in general chat with a very high success rate.

    Worst mistake ever:
Forgetting you can turn off /socialspy.

My god, chat just flies when that thing is on.
