I think there should be a different category of Mod, a chat mod. Regular mods have enough work to do helping players learn the basics, help recover looted items, fix griefs, and moderate the chat all at once, so I think there should be a chat mod to be there and deal with spammy/vulgar players.
Majority of what I do when I'm on is moderate chat. Plus. Multiple moderators are on at once. One will notice.
That is part of what they do, I don't think a specific rank for that is necessary. Trial moderators are people who are, basically, being tested of their capabilities to be promoted to full mod, they aren't assigned specifically to watch over chat.
If I read that correctly, you say if a trial mod watches chat 24/7 they are 100x more likely to be promoted than ones that check griefed areas and things of that nature. I don't think there is a main job, rather a main objective, which is keeping the server in an appropriate and balanced state. Priority comes as it does (i.e. spam going on, that would be a quick priority over watching someone's trade).
On the old staff list at the brick Skybase, the role of each position was actually written on one of the walls.
Stuff like this always gets suggested. There are plenty of mods already and a report section in case you ever catch something a mod doesn't.
I do a little more than watch over chat now mods do it all. i guess chat monitors are everyone, but the punishments for offenders are a mods deal i mean we only do what we can and if we have kick and mute, well that means every mod will monitor chat. no need for more ranks
It is a good thought but look at it this way - if their are chat mods for monitoring chat, what would regular mods do? Becoming a moderator means you do the best you can to moderate the whole server. Almost always their is a mod on the forums, if their is a spammer / advertiser just screenshot it and post it in the reports section.
One; Trial moderators didn't exist back then Two; Trial Moderators are supposed to monitor chat, solve griefs and so on ect.. If they were supposed to just watch chat, it wouldn't be called Trial Moderator, wouldn't it? Anyway, cool idea, but I don't think it really needs to be implemented, because moderators already do this.
This really isn't necessary at all. Even when In on my own, it's still prettyy easy to moderate chat and do griefs at the same time, a chat mod would just be pointless. Id say around 60% of what I do is in chat, the 'chat' mods would have nothing to do barely and people would probably just message them asking to help with griefs anyway.
I appreciate all your imput and viewpoints, but all you mods are saying that you do, in fact do all the jobs at once, the point of the idea wasn't saying you can't do your job, it was to help provide relief to your already heavy workload.
http://www.skyblock.net/threads/the-ranks-moderator.11724/ The thread still exists on the forums, although slightly outdated, it does outline the roles and responsibilities I seem to recall that Zambina wrote another one that got lost with the recent forum reset. Or maybe I'm imagining things
