On skyblock.net, We should raise the build height 50 blocks or more. Doing this would allow us to keep building higher. If people like myself encounter a problem building because we cant go up anymore, then we have no reason to progress on the server and keep playing. This would be a significant change allowing us, players, more space to play. We cant expand to the sides much due to other islands. If we go down to far it gets darker and foggy, Also if you have water or lava falling from above cant really go down.
if you build on top of your main land the main land will get dark too I had this problem in my old island with 4 floors 3 floor s is dark due to the top floor covering it
While you can change the height limit on a server, I believe that it can't go over 256. That is set by Mojang and can only be changed by them.
The setting is there so it can be changed, It is possible, I've hosted servers and made the limit over 9,000.
Its not as simple as changing the world height in the config file. plus the height cant be changed to above 256, since chunks are max 256 high. The only options for max world height is 32/64/128/256. If you wanted to go over 256 it would only work in minecraft 1.1 with mods but you can go to 512/1024/2048
Adding more build height would just increase the lag we see on the server as well. I suggest you build down
I dont think its necessary to build higher than that, i meak hom much space must one person need? theres a full 100x100 piece of land and both up and down layers to fill. If you fill that up completely then you are an architectural genius, but i think that the level is ok as it is
Don't forget, that if you raise the height by 50 blocks (~20%), thats 20% more space that the server needs to have on it's HDDs, and 20% more RAM it needs to load into chunks, which could increase the strain on the server considerably.
