My school for some odd reason, doesn't let me connect to the minecraft servers while on their wireless connection. Could someone please tell me a way to bypass the security?

    Thanks

If it's blocked you cannot bypass it without an Administrator password.

I know I can, because we bypass other sites like YouTube and Netflix with no prob. But, can't seem to figure out how to do Minecraft.

Why do you just boot MineCraft off a USB?

You can make Minecraft portable by making a .bat file with the following lines:

    SET APPDATA=%CD%\
    start %CD%\minecraft.exe

If you are more technical you can move the existing .minecraft folder from your Application Data folder into that same folder to save you having to redownload everything.

OFC Java will still need to be installed.

Also, I am hesitant to give out advice about how to bypass restrictions that are (probably rightly) put in place. Mods, is it alright to do so here?

The this is my sister couldnt join my server on cracked mc on a computer the school gave her because minecraft/java wasnt allowed to access the internet. But on her new computer, and running legit mc, she can connect to the server. I wouldnt try bypassing since its a breech of it policy (all education institutions has one) and could get you into serious trouble, which it the last thing you should get into. I think you need portable java set up with portable MC to play on school servers, but at my sisters school, MC is allowed to be played on a ll computers apart from desktop ones

You don't have to have portable java, you just need java installed on the computer that you're running MC from.

In the original post, he said he's not able to connect to minecraft servers. Does that mean you're able to open the game, but not able to connect to multiplayer servers? Or not able to even run the game?

I feel as though everyone is giving advice as to how to install it on a school computer, but he did say WiFi, so I'm inclined to believe he's on his personal laptop, just not able to connect.

My workaround for all things internet restriction related is a VPN. It basically creates a secure tunnel to another server somewhere and bypasses all your wifi's restrictions. It gives a little more lag/latency, but better than not being able to access at all.

I can give more info if you specify what your issue is more. (Are you able to load the game and just not connect/not even able to load game) Also specify whether you're trying to access on personal laptop or school computer.

I was specifically avoiding the topic of VPN because I wasn't sure how frowned upon it would be to discuss information about bypassing firewalls etc here on the forums.

Eh, I use it to protect my sensitive information from whatever wifi I'm on. It just so happens to be another perk from it.

If he was trying to get info on how to download huge torrents on his school's wifi obviously I wouldn't help him, but honestly there's nothing wrong with playing Minecraft on school's wifi (after school lets out, which is what he said he wants to do)

Zambiana since you already posted in here, what's your opinion on the matter?

West, it depends on what WIFI you're on, it's most useful on an open WIFI like at Starbucks or Macdonalds, where there is no encryption and people can sniff the data. If the WIFI is encrypted with WPA or WPA2, then no one from the outside can see what you're doing.

And FYI there are VPNs that make gaming quicker, although you need to pay for them. I personally use SmoothPing, which actually DECREASES the ping for most games, MC included

How much is SmoothPing? I use Private Internet Access. I mainly just use it for torrenting.

I think it's roughly $6 a month, look up the website, they have a free trial where you can see if it makes a difference.
