I'd argue if a second grader doesn't understand that telling them they win 1/20 times means they lose 19/20 times this is the perfect scenario for them to figure out that basic fact of reality. Skyblock uses meaningless fake currency, that has no real-world consequence. It's something you probably care about if you care about the game, and so has the potential to instill the lesson when lost, but doesn't have any actual consequence. That said, maybe there's an argument to be made about the psychological effects of gambling on anyone, I don't have the answers. I just disagree with your particular argument here.

I'm also not sure how "multipl[ying] the wrong thing" leads to accusing "most" casinos of being fraudulent. I'm still interested in knowing how you determine any given casino is lying about their actual odds of winning, as I'd of course like to better understand the issues at play.

Yet they still keep rate abusing despite all warnings lol, imagine how badly they're willing to take this down... This is an open discussion once again, and it's understandable if people repeat their opinions. The only goal here is reaching everyone no matter what and bring some kind of awareness to the issue, so I still keep encouraging everyone to participate, as long they do so in a respectful manner.

As well as it might be the perfect time to get seduced into a gambling addiction, when it starts becoming a real-world consequence. You are absolutely right however, this fake currency is absolutely "meaningless", in fact, this exact argument is how most big lootbox companies get away in court when they get confronted regarding gambling. It's an outrageous boast in my opinion, as these big guys are taking the money to give away their currency, but that's how the world works I suppose.

This is for one machine. So you have a 1 in 9 chance of making like a small profit, but on that same spin you also have a very small chance to get say a dp head as well

Are you referring to micro transactions in other video games? That's the only instance of lootboxes I can think of being "in court". Those companies sell you their in-game currency for real money and use that to open the lootboxes (or sell you them directly, but that's not what you were referring to). That's not even close to the same thing. They can argue whatever they want in court about that currency being meaningless, but that's just a way to skirt regulation, whereas here there is no real money invested at any stage.

One I remember recently (from games I play) was runescape 3, for example. Not sure if you're familiar, but they sell you game benefits( exp, in-game money, etc) from a gambling lootbox-like environment, I didn't thoroughly follow their case, but I recall watching this video and finding absolutely outrageous :joy:
Jagex Explains Why It's a Microtransactions Aren't Gambling : r/runescape (they claim their assets in the game are useless, hence not falling under the definition of gambling in uk laws or something, how convenient)
Obviously I'm in no way comparing this to a minecraft server, but the way u said it made me get a very similiar feeling. Just because what you're investing your money in is "useless", that doesn't prevent it from being gambling, betting, whichever way you may want to call it. I don't understand what you mean with your last phrase tho, you can buy crate keys here unlike the examples u speak of, where you don't directly buy the lootboxes. Crew could avoid directly selling them, but that isn't anyone's goal here I'd assume.

We're not discussing the donation store right now though. You could make complaints about that, I'd probably agree with them, but this thread turned into discussions about player-run casinos. Casinos which use grass (or other items) as the currency, something you're not buying for real world money. -- My assumption is the lootboxes in other games you were referring to were the kind where you buy an in-game currency with real money and use that currency to pay to open the lootboxes. Companies that use this argue that because the currency can't be converted back to real money that it isn't subject to the same gambling regulations. Which seems to hold up in court, but is obviously just gambling real money to anyone who's not a lawyer interpreting a formal gambling regulation. Here that's not what's happening, you're gambling in the game the currency earned in the game. Money isn't involved.

Edit: I realize I was unclear - the thread has seemingly for a while been exclusively discussing player-run casinos. Idk when the p2w thing got dropped, but I haven't seen mention of it in a while.

Maybe then it could be an idea to introduce a server set odds ruling? But it can get difficult to determine what odds are fair then.

What are the total dropper prize values? How much does it cost to play per spin?

At one casino it could have a jackpot prize worth 2 dc grass, but only cost 1g per spin. Comparing to another thats 1g for 10 spins, or 10g per spin for a prize worth less as a random example. How would you determine that the odds vs cost of spin are fair or unfair.

If it goes into the realms of being impossible to win. That could be more the focus making them legit that way

I also dislike the ludicrously high odds of many casino jackpots, which is why I don't play at them, but you should also consider the fact that most of the money you get back from casinos takes the form of the smaller prizes.

For example, when I ran my casino back in 2019-2020, my odds were 1/729 for the biggest jackpot prize, which was worth about 300 to 400 grass. It would SEEM like I'd still profit 329 grass per jackpot won, but in actuality because my common (1/9) and rare (1/81) prizes were incrementally valuable items like iron, votekeys and spawners, people who played my casino would get the majority of their money back just by winning those regular prizes. So for every 729 spins, they would get about 600 to 650 grass back from reselling all the drops, or 200 to 250 grass back from reselling just the non-jackpot drops (which most people liked to keep since they're fun items like elytras or beacons)

I still do think that many casinos have annoyingly high odds and I also know for a fact that most casinos give much worse common prizes compared to my old one, which is why I don't personally patronize them, but the 'o.oo2% ---> 99.99% chance of losing all your money' representation is not quite accurate. That would only be true if they had zero prizes below the jackpot.

okay, for your last bit: that is simply the maths. on a 0.002% machine, every roll, you have a 99.998% chance of losing it all. that is accurate.

also, why do you keep arguing that "its fine because some people were winning more than losing" like -- stop teasing people with this rhetoric. just because people win sometimes doesn't make the system bulletproof. in fact that's part of the problem getting people invested or addicted to gambling: the possibility of winning and the pain of losing.

similar to SuckyMagicans argument which 0cultado refuted beautifully: it doesn't matter if people are winning or if they are gambling with meaningful or meaningless currency, it's the ACT of gambling that is addictive in nature and that is what we are taking issue with. that is why some of us players are calling for it to end in this child-friendly space.

Overall I do feel like many casinos are running super rigged odds. you said it yourself: you wouldn't gamble at any of these more recent compared to yours's machines. so you should push for others not to gamble as well. don't let the exploitation continue with your inaction.

Gotta love free advertising! I'm glad my casino follows the guidelines, thanks for putting me on the list!

Also, you forgot to put Noobcrew on this list. Can't forget about crate keys.

I agree. noobcrew does absolutely run crate keys. and that should change.
I wouldn't call this "advertising" in a discussion with primarily casino owners and anti-casino players. but for now go with it. hopefully when we do win a change here this list will quickly turn to serve as the opposite of advertisement. you know exactly what this is.

also Fatal: if your name is on there, I or one of my associates have found your casino. why... did you take yours down?

The casino at CosmicTsunami's has been closed for more than 5 years and has not been usable for the same amount of time, as the mechanism to spin was disconnected since 2020

I was not gonna say anything here, but Blobfish can you and your cohort (Monarchia_) not bring this issue to the actual game? I log into the game to get away from real life, and not get bombarded with stuff like this ingame!

As a mother of 3, I can see where you coming from. But it is not up to the server to baby-sit and enforce what is actually the parent's job! Yes, this server has some kids under 10 logging in (their claim, not mine) there is a lot of tweens and teens, and then there is a lot of 18+ players. If you done a good job educating your kids, by the age of 12 -13 they should know the risk of online gaming.

As a Senior/head Admin on another large server that also had this issue, there is not much you can do actually. You can ban casinos, yes, but players just get craftier to 'rename' a casino and get players to use it. Been there, tried to police that, but in the end there were other ways invented to make a game of fortune.
By all means, report owners of dodgy 'gaming venues' if their odds are impossible or are a scam.

You made the thread here and I understand where you come from. Personally I dont like gambling either. But whatever you want to call it keep it here on forums,
because at this point I feel uncomfortable to join the game and get bombarded with what is 'ethically and morally' acceptable or not.

As for now and as I have always done, when a player askes 'any casinos?' just politely tell them, if you must, the shortfalls of betting your grass/items and the risk of losing them for good

You are entitled to your opinions, but you must also respect ours

I feel honoured to make your hit list, you posting that picture is the most advertising I’ve done for my casino in a year. It’s nice that you’ve listed and posted a bunch of your favourites for the people to visit and play like you have asked.
