. So a friend suggested this and I agree it's a good idea.

There should be an island setting that disables use of an elytra on their island if wanted. This includes bounce jumping and gliding. Players have been using elytras to glitch through half-1 block gaps into parts of islands that aren't supposed to have players access . (Eg a decorative storage build or redstone areas such as casino in play etc).

So this would be an island protection against using elytras to access one or half block gaps in builds.

Examples of how this could be useful:

Parkour or obstical maps that require fly off. (Elytras would count as flying.)

To stop players from swimming through gaps players can't usually fly through, eg in builds.
Casinos, where you stand on pressure pads and it closes the door to stop players entering when in use, most leave a 1 block gap. So this would be used here too. And it's optional, most players won't need it bit for the few that do, would be super helpful. Coupled with /fly it makes sense to have the option to also stop elytra flight

My suggestion is simply disables elytras being used on islands, similar to how no fly works.

Let me give you an example:

I've been designing a parkour where if the players reach the end, They get a reward.

Some gaps can be near impossible. Eg 5 block gaps, or jumps from a height onto slimeblocks to reach the next block to land on in the parkour.

But if a player has their elytra working, they can simply bounce and glide/swim through any of these gaps and obstacles.

Therfore elytras would give an unfair advantage to those unable to use one, or would allow players to enter areas the Isle owner doesn't want them to.




My other example is that I have a private build with decorative blocks thayt leaves tiny gaps which a player, sneaking or jumping, wouldn't be able to get through.

Turning off their elytras would mean they can't swim or glide and jump/bounce through the gaps into sed private build.

 

This suggestion won't work since people can just fly by holding their breath and jumping up and down while flapping their arms.

I would disagree with this statement because i love using my elytra everywhere, it's a faster way to travel. And more fun than simply flying. You can use it to bounce and 'swim' through the air. This helps players access through gaps you couldn't by simply crouching or flying. Plus they're rare items that hold their value

 

Suggestions rarely get updated in game. So holychickens comment was poking humour at the devs to try and approve suggestions more often

 

well yeah, i got that, it's just he posts that on pratically any suggestion he comments on, and imagine if you were a dev, presumably working hard, and you check the forums for some suggestions and you see a comment like that, it'd make you p oed and make you not wanna check other suggestions

 

what do you mean nerfing it? it's just turning it off on people's islands who don't want elytra flying to be going on. not only would i not mind this but i might turn it off in /settings myself.

 

well like the only time elytra is used in overworld is when /fly is off, and it's really not that big a deal to have people fly around your island.

My suggestion isn't to stop people flying, butter. It's to stop the gliding effect that elytras allow players to use. It's simply disables the elytra checks. With an elytra as I've explained, players can glide through a half block gap. Normal flying won't allow that to happen, but you can with an elytra. So if you have a private build with small gaps, a player could elytra theough those gaps into your private build. I'm simply suggesting to not allow that ability on our own islands if we want to.
