To: CHAT OFFENCES Users should not spam, flood, or be rude in chat. You should also not create fake messages, as this is against our rules and counts as trolling. Users advertising their island must wait 5 minutes between advertisements on our Survival server and 10 minutes on our Economy server. They should limit their advertisements to one message, or it will be considered spam. Note: This change is effective immediately; however, there is a one-week cool-off period before this becomes a punishable offence.
It’s easy enough to meet this requirement on Eco with “automated” advertising as was the suggestion, but this rule differs from that suggestion as it applies to ALL advertising. I don’t run any automated Ad’s, rather I advertise only if my Afk shop is available and/or when players ask in chat. Players might ask in chat more often than once per 10 minutes but this rule prevents me from answering them if they do. I could automate my ad for every 10 minutes but if we all do that then it will flood the chat even more than it does currently. The number of ads I personally run will increase from 5-10 per day to 144 per day. Likewise for others advertising. Any chance we can have this rule applied to automated ads only with commonsense applied to manual advertising. Personally, I don’t think it makes sense to auto advertise AFK shops at all because most of the time they won’t be available so I’d be happier to disallow all automated advertising of AFK shops, which is what the suggestion was. From what I’ve seen there isn’t too much of any other advertising.
It’s a good start, but I would say 10 minutes should be the new interval for survival too, lots more advertising on that server and much more flooded with ads.
Consistency in rules between servers makes a lot more sense than what will come into enforcement in a week.
Economy chat is slower. Being on Skyblock most of the time, personally, I do think the 5 minute gap is sufficient.
Does staff run the risk of potentially pulling the trigger too quickly on one server or the other due to inconsistent timers or because a player wasn't paying attention and pasted the same code to create an ad? I'm not saying mods or players are stupid, but mistakes happen and having inconsistent rules between the two servers increases (in my opinion) the risk and even likelihood of applying the wrong response to the situation if a mod is active throughout the day in both servers. In general, however, I appreciate the timing change.
It’s not hard to remember two different times. We are fairly lenient when it comes to these rulings and when it comes to punishment. In most instances the user in question is simply asked to correct their mistake, and that’s it. Most of the time people are sending chat advertisements with insufficient timing it is a mistake or because they’re unaware of the ruling, which is fine. In general, for the past two years, there has been no ‘pulling of triggers’. A one-on-one conversation is far more effective for the education of the ruling.
Honestly advertising on survival is far worse than on eco. Only problem on eco is chat is quiet some times, so you will see some chats repeated. When I've advertised my profit shops I usually use a 15min-20min delay. Youre more likely to see th repeated if the servers chat is quieter, But that doesn't mean they're being spammed. If respecting the ad delay limit then that's fine. On survival it's a flood of adverts compared to very little actual conversation, or that's how it's for me
