As it is now...island level is pointless. Like being in the top 20 is just a flex but ultimately this doesn't actually get you anything. This is a pretty common trip up for new players as they start asking how to increase their island level only to find out that it doesn't matter. Now...I think the best way to make Island Level useful would be - tie island level to the /gen rates. Like even if the ore rates were capped at...double what the current rates are for say...1k levels? That still at least makes island level useful while not being too OP I think. With that said, I'm sure there's other ways to make island level useful, that was just the one idea that came to mind. Either way, I think it's strange to have the island level mechanic in the game if it doesn't meaningfully matter.
I fully support this feature! However I would not like the current rates to be the base rates, and I think to make it interesting for late-game players the max should be 10k levels for 2.5x current rates! Let me know what you think!
Drogo is unclear on what you mean by this. Are you suggesting that an increase in island level would increase the ore gen rate, or some other factor? It makes sense as in most games, players gain benefit from increasing the levels of their players, towns, cites, etc. And Drogo agrees with Ca1 that there needs to be a fairly early cap to any increase.
Yeah, would be nice if there was a point in is level. Upping gen rates could be cool even maybe give the player a very slim chance at get a diamond or emerald.
Yeah - I think a higher island level should correspond with better ore gen rates, which would make so much sense and provide way more use to island levels. (And a boost to the profits you'll get from mining)
Bumping this because something needs to be done to liven the server up and what better than some reward for building up your island.
Doesn't this just encourage people more to build cubes of blocks under their island because that's the only way to make it into the top 20 these days right? Not actual creativity.
No, because it’s not about getting into the top 20 and as previously suggested, any gain would be capped at some level. Drogo suggests some number well below what is currently the top island level. The idea behind this is that island level has some purpose other than being in the top 20. Some purpose that is attainable by everyone.
Won't it be the same process, except everyone will place a load of gold blocks until they hit the tier to get the goodies. Its not a creative endeavour just means everyone has to place a load of gold to get free things.
SuperCoolWimp thinks this is a bad idea. Island level should be competitive, and SuperCoolWimp agrees at its current state it’s useless, but this won’t do anything. This will either benefit already rich players and hurt poorer players OR be really easy to obtain and just ruin the ore economy. SuperCoolWimp wants competition, not a ruined economy. No support.
The island level algorithm has changed so that method of gaining level isn’t as effective. It’s supposed to reward variety. Perhaps it could just work like challenges such that there are rewards for gaining certain island levels. Not a huge reward but just enough to give players something to strive for. It would be good if island level had some meaning or value to newer players.
Drogo doesn’t like the idea of increased ore gen rate but maybe just grass for certain levels achieved. Just enough that makes a difference to newer players.
To clarify, I would want any benefits capped at a relatively reasonable island level - something like 500-1000. 500-1000 is not too difficult to achieve as a new player - you can get there pretty quickly with stone bricks tbh. Benefits shouldn't keep going after the 1000 though because that would for sure benefit the people who can afford to just buy loads of emerald blocks. But I still think island level should have some actual value, because it's one of the most common questions on the server: "how do I increase my island level?" and they only ask because they don't know that it's basically useless to care about island level.
I'm in favor of there being some sort of buff from island level, though maybe something aside from /gen rates.
I have to disagree with this one. This would ruin the server economy. If I was a “rich” player, I would set up multiple cobble stone generators and mine as much as I could. With the increased rates I would earn more ores and then I would sell them. Eventually the server would have less demand for ores therefore the price of ores would drop. Basic Economics.
In terms of dropping price of ores, it can be viewed from 2 different perrspectives. Players who are looking to buy ores would get more ores out of their grass, In the meantime, a player who wishes to gain grass by grinding ores would then need to keep up with those who has a higher /gen rate. I suggest that there should be a limit in terms of how much island level affects the ore /gen rate. Perhaps just a minor change of 0.01%. I also agree with Drogo's suggestion to give out grass for a certain island level achieved.
