    Hmm define "cheap", how cheap?

And it being half old won't matter, the games I play aren't that resource intensive, so it will be well above my needs.

Desperate? Yeah, my integrated graphics don't really hold up well on any games.

I mean the new 6500(xt)/3050(ti) for around $175 MSRP that will likely release in mid/late summer of this year, with more performance than the 1660.
And its not a bad choice if you want a GPU now, but patience is always better.

I love beating a dead horse as much as the next guy, but its not really that bad. It also has a 1 TB HDD which you might have glossed over. 8 GB is fine in most general cases, I had 6 GB in my main PC until 2018 and 4 GB in my laptop.

It is not the best, but people will pay a premium for convenience (Do you plan on building your own car?).

Edit, the BB page shows 2 ram sticks so 2x4 GB ram so error on my part when picking the parts (oops).

Unless you happen to already have all the parts required for a PC, you would be getting pc parts online, which will take at minimum 2 business days. You could buy retail, but that will be a bit more expensive.

Granted, it was pretty niche back then, but the idea of assembling your own car still carries on today and with the internet helping bring diverse groups of people together, car building communities are out there.

We can summarize it even further; to allow consumers to own a PC with minimum effort. Performance (for gaming/work) and portability (for laptop/tablets/all-in-ones) are features we pay extra for

While prebuilts aren't entirely bad, I feel that you used a few logical fallacies when making this argument.
8GB of ram fails when put up to many modern games, such as Forza H4, the new COD, even Minecraft, etc. Also, it is single channel, which is terrible for CPU performance (~5-20% loss depending).
Finally, building a PC is much different than building a car. It would take me ~2 hours at most to build a top-end gaming PC with custom loop cooling, RGB, etc. Not only am I unable to buy parts for a car, there are few tutorials and it would take me likely weeks to assemble it from a chassis, engine, drive train, and so on.
Regardless, prebuilts serve two very specific purposes: to let parents who don't trust their children own a gaming PC with minimal effort, as well as allowing boomers access to the internet.
Agreed about the convenience, but I would argue that it is a choice for the uninformed consumer.

Imma cross my fingers that Biden reinstates the tariff thing that made graphics cards prices normal, and then wait to get the 2060, so that I can do some ray tracing

the one from B&H Video seems like a good deal compared to the other links you provided. But if you want a 2060 rn I'd suggest buying it used from offerup or from ebay (from a reputable seller ofc). Sometimes they were only used for a really short time

Yeah luckily I got outbid - i would prefer a dual fan if possible.
I want to wait but I also don't want to pass up on a good deal, so if I get any rtx for great prices imma be impulsive.

What do you estimate a 3050 will be and when? Cause I really don't think its going to be hitting under 300 anytime soon, but then again, I'm not the most informed person.

The 3050 should release in the first half of this year along with a 6500/6600/xt (around $150-$250 MSRP average).
Since these are smaller, lower binned dies (meaning more yields per cm^2 of silicon) and we have had almost a year to catch up on stock issues, it should be easier to get one of these cards for closer to MSRP.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but Intel is pretty poor for forward compatibility, and the AM4 socket for AMD is expected to be replaced soon, so getting an AM4 CPU would limit upgradability in the future too. Alongside waiting for price drops, I'd consider following AMD for information about sockets.

If you're not too concerned about future proofing, wait for the price drops and you should be good to go. Just never cheap out on the PSU (fire safety), and if using AMD, get a B550/X570 board ideally. (B450 is okay but may need BIOS update for Ryzen 3000 CPU)

Crossing my fingers the scalpers chill out and that tariffs get all sorted out so that this can go from dream to reality

    Yeah screw intel, amd gang>>>

I changed the selected board to the B550 for only 10 extra dollars, thanks for the input! The PSU should be good here I think?

GameMax have a bad reputation for their power supplies. I'd strongly advise going for Corsair, EVGA or SeaSonic for a PSU. Ideally one with an 80+ certification. The issue with cheap PSU's, like the ones you listed is that they tend not to be suitable for what they claim it can handle, which is a fire risk and could wreck your other components. It will cost extra for a good one, but your other components will thank you

I personally use a Corsair RM850x. Set me back about £150 but has done an excellent job running my system and is silent.
