According to the theory of Bandura violence through video games can be saved in your brain but you "copying" that behavior you learned in video games is dependant to your motivation (=if you want to do that) and your skills (=can I do that). If everyone who played video games, watched violent movies, etc. were violent a very big part of the worlds population would be violent which is currently not the case.
.-. You killed my troll thread. Finee guess this has to become a legitimate discussion for like the 5th time this year.
Violence should not be blamed on video games, instead perhaps the media, and modern entertainment mediums as a whole. Humans don’t have the best track record when it comes to being peaceful(i.e. the Colosseum, Nero, both World Wars, Vietnam, etc.) snd our media has certainly not avoided violence in either old silent films, or modern CGI-packed films of violence and gore. Video games are just another iteration of such want and desire, and despite this, I fail to see that large portions of society or populations acting out violently in direct correlation to violent mediums.
When there's extreme lag in a video game I get pissed off and leave the game lol But to get into the facts, I strongly disagree that violence cannot come from video games. It's your mind. If you do something violent, its on you, not the video game nor the creator. If you cant handle the violence in video games, then dont buy it
Most of the behavior we do is what we see and learn (=copy) from other people. So if a person only sees violence in video games and decides to copy it, it is in fact because of the video game. But saying everyone who plays video games is or will be violent is a generalization. I agree with your that it is all in your mind and it depends on the person whether they want to copy violence.
There is a potential for people to copy literally anything from violence to swearing to language to style and looks etc. Yes some kids might decided to copy a violent act from a game but there are other things that are violent too such as tv shows, movies, the news, even documentaries may have stylized violence. If parents spent more teaching kids to not copy what is on TV and games and less time complaining that violent things shouldn't exist then we would have less problems. Which makes me the most mad; those who try and scare others into believing a video game will cause their children to be violent and try and remove the game from everyone, rather than just stopping their child from playing it with rules in place. Lazy parents fear mongering other lazy parents into trying to ruin video games for everyone. Hooray.
Parents and people who think violent games and other sorts of media can be harmfum to a child need to go to parenting school (A toddler is the only exceotion)
if you plead mental illness you get packed away to an institution and stay there for the same amount of time, if not longer, than your prison term would have been if you weren't 'mentally ill'.
I've been playing videos games my whole life and I still can't even stand the sight of a gun. Most people argue saying video causes violent, but that's simply not the case for everyone. Some people play video games in order to cope with problems they have and they choose to escape reality with a bit of gun play. They know right and wrong and yet feeling the power of control over something that has no problems or consequences feels great and the problems they have are now gone. Video games are go to for many suffering. However, Krissy 's right (as usual). Many kids/teenagers copy the swearing they see in videogames.
