I built a trade shop in my island and I am wondering. Will the trade shops come back? And if they will. So when?
If anyone is finding trading unsafe, I'd suggest the little rooms at /visit Skyshop. Using chests is far safer, as moderators can log them to see what items were placed in or removed from the chest.
Tradeshops will be coming back, but as mentioned above, I'd prefer if other major things were sorted first - you can still trade without them, you just have to be more wary or ask a moderator to conduct the trade.
Just always demand payment first: no payment, no sale or ask a mod to assist you. Due to the updated permissions you should be able to let people access chests on your island so lock every chest except the trade one and chest trade. I don’t know if it works (haven’t tested how the island permission for chests work) so if it doesn’t it is just a wait to the plugin returning. If anything I feel like they are redoing the plugin or making improvements which will be worth the wait
The problem with adding tradeshops is that bugs can occur which can lead to duping like it happened on the old server when tradeshops were first added if anyone remembers xd
It would be nice if tradeshops could operate via trapped chests as well. I don't think that works on classic. It just makes for a tidier tradeshop.
There are a lot of bugs with the current trade shop plugin installed on classic, so Lee wants to fix it up before installing it. He can probably make it so they work with trapped chests.
It is certainly on Lee's list, much like a lot of the features we desire such as /setprefix. Suggestions are always welcomed and do help especially from other perspectives.
Drogo is planning using hoppers to automatically restock trade chests. Hopefully this will just work with out any extra effort by Lee and co.
I have heard that lee wants to deal with or mitigate the lag issues first. but yes he his working on this
Asking for payment first significantly limits the number of people willing to trade with you. You yourself might be unaware of this, as you're a well established member of the community and can rely on this reputation to garner trust from the other party. A less well known player or a greenie (greynie now?) cannot rely on this reputation, and risks either losing the trade or being labeled a scammer. Vice versa, if a new player who doesn't know who to trust wants to trade, and I demand he drops his items first, he'll more likely than not respond with "lol scammer" and warp away. It's happened more tones than I care to admit, and leaves a very unpleasant taste in my mouth.
Drogo just uses the record screen feature of Windows 10 for all trades so is happy to hand over the items first. On occasion people don't pay but then when they realise the trade was recorded they either give back the item or pay for it.
