    SCAMMERS!
Hey skyblockers, unfortunately the number of scammers are increasing and we need your help to stop them. There are some tips here to get rid of these scammers so please follow them as it's better for you and the staff team.

Inventory trading - extremely useful and any staff member can do it for you. Just ask a staff member online to swap the items in your inventory but tell them the trade - both players will have to tell the staff member personally to confirm the trade. There is no possible way you can be scammed through this way but this method is usually used for rare trades mostly, so for smaller trade the tradeshop method is your second best option.

Tradeshops - simply carry a chest and a sign with you so that you can trade via tradeshops, however there is the odd glitch where you will not receive all the items required. To prevent this glitch from happening in general, make sure that the item you are buying is not in your inventory and if it is then it has to be full stacks. This is still a secure way of trading but you have the risks. If you are paying more than 64 then that's a bit tough unless it's minerals in which you can turn them into blocks and change the trade to blocks instead of minerals.

Chest - chest trading without the tradeshop is slightly more unsafe. We can log removals and inputs of items in chests (even trapped ones) with locks on too. However
WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT YOUR ITEMS WILL BE FOUND IF YOU ARE SCAMMED!!!!! But we will do our upmost best to try and find them.

Try to avoid this one - manual. If none of the above work this should be your final resort to look at. ALWAYS record your trade as this is the most inaccurate and risky trade action. I repeat, this should be your last resort as you can at least tradeshop or chest the items if staff aren't on. Please do not help the scammers by not recording it!!

In order for evidence to be accepted if you get scammed, we need proof that the player agreed to the trade you got scammed from, the items being dropped to them but they don't give the items and their /seen if they went offline or that they left the place that you were trading.

    UPGRADES
This is the most crucial part of this thread. When getting an upgrade give the staff member what you are paying and then when the person upgrades you and the rank/perk has come through the staff member will give them the payment.

Please help us out and don't get scammed. Have a great day skyblockers!

Yep, all this is true. When I was new I traded diamond armor manually and didn't record: yep, I was scammed.
Hopefully players follow this, it will help a lot. Thank you Dough :).

This is a very nice guide, Dough. Scamming is for sure the biggest problem here, and it’s hard to stop it. When I was a new non-donor, I used to get scammed a lot. Thank you, this will help newer players~

This is an excellent guide, Dough. Every new player should read it. I've seen new players rage quit after getting scammed early on, and it's so unfortunate, because even if a mod is later able to track down the stolen items, the victim has given up on the server and may never return. I may bookmark this so I can paste it in-game whenever I see someone in chat engaging in a potentially risky trade when there no mods online.

That's usually the safest and easiest approach, especially for lower-valued items. But some items, such as banners and enchanted items can't be sold using a tradeshop chest.

Anytime you do a trade that involves dropping items on the ground:

    1) Check for recent ClearLag messages to reduce chances of your items or payment being eaten. If you use TabbyChat, you can set up an audible alert so you're not caught off guard. Here's the one I use on my client:

    AudibleClearLag.PNG

If you can't set up or use an audible warning (for example if you're hearing-impaired), just remember to always scroll up your chat window to look for any recent ClearLag warnings. Moderators can check whether missing items were gobbled up by ClearLag (and not sneakily picked up by another player) but they can't restore lost items, so always check for ClearLag warnings before you drop anything important to you or another player.

    2) Check for suspicious bystanders who might swoop in and pick up the goods before the trade can be completed. I've seen scammers who have accomplices waiting in the wings ready to snag the items, and then they pretend that they, too, are innocent victims. Don't be fooled. Don't drop anything if there's anyone else within reaching distance.

    3) Capture video of the transaction using a tool such as Bandicam. I have mine set up with a hotkey so I can start and stop recording video at the press of a button. The free version of Bandicam lets you record up to 10 minutes of video.

    4) In the event you *are* scammed in a manual trade, report it as soon as possible in the Report Users section of the forums, including any screenshots and video evidence. Even if your own items can't be recovered, reporting the incident can help protect other players from being scammed, too.

I was selling a wither head this morning, and then someone messaged me about it, and we were going to do the trade until I told them I was recording, and they suddenly said 'Oh I was joking' and disconnected.
I've been recording a lot of player's trades recently. c:

Scamming is a very important part of the server as a whole. I dislike seeing this discrimination against it. Also: add more colour.

    No support.

    scamming is bad.

    Really nice guide, Dough.
Nice tips to give to people when they're trading.

I remember dumb old me when I was trading and I thought to myself that I'd just not record and I got scammed so.
But luckily it was only a few grass blocks.

But I agree, scamming has increased over the years and a lot of players are complaining in the chat.

I don't think scamming has increased. The server has become smaller and therefore it is easy to notice the person who claimed they were scammed.
The tips should help though a lot of people that get scammed don't have forums and most likely will quit before reading.
The real solution is for staff to be on more and monitoring situations and players who are more experienced to start helping those who are scammed. Community effort.
