I went to a feed bin on 08/04/17 to look at there rats and see if there was one I could take home so they couldn't be snake food. I had looked at this female where she had bad cuts on her ears and nose. She also looked really pregnant. On top of everything they had there rats in a bathroom, and the bathroom was filthy. Where they had them in tanks, where there was a lot of gunk on the tanks, and the bedding looked really old, Tanks are bad for rats because they can get URI's, however there were about 10-15 small babies in one tank with a male rat, they sold off there mother as well. So they have been living without a mom for about a week or so. I decided to not take one home and instead I called the local emergency rescue team in my area and will be contacting a few other places to see what they can do. However today 08/05/17 I decided to go back and rescue that mother to give her and her babies a better chance. They ended up telling me I cannot buy her because the owner of the shop wasn't allowing the females in the bathroom to be sold. I'm assuming because she was pregnant and so were the other females. However, when I went back, the 10-15 babies I had seen went down to 2. It crushed my heart. I asked them if I could get the last two babies they had and I ended up with them here. I still have many places to call to get the rats there either in a better condition or at least cages till they are sold. Whether or not they will be feeders or not they still deserve to be in livable conditions. The two babies I got are female and male, I'm not sure on a name for the male, but the female's name is Kindred. I'm keeping both of the babies and they're so shy and timid. They're eating food but I haven't seen them drink any water yet. They're about 3/4 weeks old and I'll have to separate them soon so they don't breed. I also got another rat about 4 weeks ago and he's hairless, I named him Tibbers. Tldr; I got 3 new rats, 2 babies and 1 slightly older but still young one. Don't hate, lol.
Omg I didn't read the thread all but I read some. Anyways they are adorable! I had 3 hamsters then one of them had 7 babies, so 11 then 1 of them died D: and 4 of them were sold. so now we have 6. And I love them! These rats remind me of em!

what's a URI? I love the hairless one, it reminds me of Queen You're doing such a good job dew! Just make sure they don't breed LMAO
What little cuties! :O It's very kind of you to rescue them like that. I'm sure they'll live amazing lives compared to the ones they would have otherwise lead.
DEAD LOL... Tyty a URI is a upper respiratory infection, like a cold but can be fatal. Thanks Cel xoxo
I swear to god, I have 5 rats right now, and will be getting 6... I would legit kermit if I had to deal with another 10 to 15 babies.
Female rats go in heat every 4-5 days... and legit can get pregnant at 5 weeks old, as well as have up to 15 babies at a time and get pregnant right after giving birth. It's like hella crazy that's why they're considered pests.
They also legit remain pregnant for like 21-24 days and legit pop out a s*** load of babies every month.
Rats can stink so bad, but legit I bathe mine and I rub coconut oil on there fur so they're forced to clean themselves. xD
