Suggested listening: Bush - Little Things

Everyone likes to be the hero of their own story. Since humans are masters at ignoring inconvenient truths while rationalizing behaviors this means we can all be the "good guy"... at the price of nobody really being very nice at all.

•spills drink• For the love of dank memes! Slow down there Johnny Rockets: You jumped straight into this without even a courtesy slap on the rear. Give me a second to read through thi-

-HOLY CHRIST. I have never seen someone start a job application with a self-inflicted gunshot wound this large. List of negatives:
-1 for explaining why you're uninterested in Minecraft.
-5 for saying why you were a bad Moderator ("lot of inactivity and lack of moderation").
-1 for detailing wanting to resign in favor of someone "who would actually moderate" (!!!).
-1 for "watched a lot of YouTube and the game looks interesting now".
-2 for nut-kicking the current staff team over lack of coverage.

Remove this entire opening paragraph. This isn't a prep statement; so far this post is a dumpster fire that would make Nick Vujicic weep in pity.

I haven't even gotten to the application part yet...

Nice to meet you, Girls. Speaking as a father your name makes me want to brush up on Megan's Law.

+1 for correct time zone, an amazing amount of people fail this question.

    MuricaChamps.jpg
    OF 'MERICA!
    +1 for 'merica.

#GrammarNazi: "I fluently speak both English and German". Yoda just called for you sir, something about training you should be?

    McKaylaMaroney.jpg
Alright, Slick Charles: Let's see what you've got.

You are running a -8 handicap from that nut-punchingly bad opening on your application. This next part needs to be more awesome than Jesus Christ putting Hitler in a headlock while eating Nutella.

Getting a fresh drink and proceeding to-

    o_O

-what the hell is this?? Lemonade and honey Jack Daniels!? Myrmwife has me on a diet again. In a fair world this wouldn't matter but now I am more upset than a blind man at a lingerie competition. Prepare to feel my anger.

-1 for spellcheck. I belive your "believe" is missing a letter.
-2 for "I was one of the more active mods". If you are going to claim this you need to remove your opening paragraph where you explicitly say you were not active at all.

Experience is the #1 quality that gets someone hired for a job. Honestly the fact you have been a Moderator before is a huge mark in your favor: More than likely that is enough. But at least try to be consistent in your application when you lie to us about your activity, Mr. Girls.

Remove this. "Maturity" isn't something you can prove by writing about it, you have to demonstrate this over time. I am more mature than you!; I'm older than you are!; see how mature I am?; are you doubting me yet...?

If you are going to use "Maturity" in an application you need to give examples. "I volunteer as a suicide prevention counselor for 20 hours a week. This requires immense levels of maturity and self-reflection to handle problems while distancing myself from traumatic experiences".

-5. Read your opening paragraph again. You explicitly state you were not active and wanted to resign so someone else that was active could take your place.

Remove this. Or remove your introductory paragraph. Or rephrase them both so it doesn't sound like absolute bullshit. Your choice, sir.

+1. Almost a good quality-- explain why this is important to a Moderator. Being organized means you keep track of your bans, appeals and refunds so you handle everything in a timely manner? Etc.

    Rename this section to "Impartial".

"Communication skills" have nothing to do with not being angry over situations. You are describing the ability to set aside your own emotions in order to Moderator effectively: This is the definition of impartiality. Rephrase or rewrite this.

Sidenote: Damn this drink is nasty. >_< Alcohol and Lemonade just do not mix well.

    Remove this.

Your "great ideas" sound absolutely amazing! What the bleeding Christ are they, exactly? You never explain what your ideas are.

Also how in the name of Donald Duck's sex tape does this matter to a Moderator? Will good ideas make you more effective when banning spammers? Explain why your creativity matters to the server and the job you're applying for.

Almost there, but not quite. Explain why setting a good example improves the server as a whole. Being a role model means players are less likely to treat each other like unwanted toilet stains...? Rephrase this and focus on why this quality makes you a good Moderator choice.

    FBomb.jpg
When the A-bomb just isn't cutting it.

WHY ARE YOU GIVING US REASONS NOT TO SUPPORT YOU??

Remove anything from your application about how you stopped wanting to be a Moderator, failed at putting in effort, didn't spend any time doing your job and gave up so someone more qualified could take your place. WHY are you bringing this up over and over (and over and over...) in your job application?

Do you think bank employees start their résumé with "sometimes I take change from public fountains"?

Was this before you quit because you were bored?

Rephrase this. Instead of detailing exactly how many people have quit .Org (including you) perhaps you might want to focus on how you've always enjoyed the .Org community? Or switch to explaining why effective Moderating can make sure everyone on this tight-knit group feels like their problems are listened to and swiftly handled?

Good communities are founded on a bedrock of true believers: Be the champion those zealots need to grow.

    Arguments.jpg
    Dear Lord...

WHEN?? When are you going to be online for those 2 hours? Are you volunteering for the midnight-to-2am shift? How can you be selected for the position if no-one has any idea when you'll be available? Provide a schedule.

+1 for being up front without providing unnecessary details. Nicely done.

What did you do, buckaroo? Experience is the #1 thing that gets people hired but you need to specify what you are familiar with.

For example: Were you the head of mini-game advertising? Perhaps you investigated player abuse? Maybe you personally handled all requests for Moderator-themed erotic fan fiction...? Please tell us what you have experience doing, not just that you've played on some servers, yo.

    Just Stop.jpg

You're working a personal angle here. You explicitly call out the server owner, point out your previous relationship, mention how many people like you, trade in some goodwill, etc.

Yes: Personal appeals work. Relationships and influence get people special treatment; just ask Stel for all the facepalming anecdotes you'll ever need. However if this is the kind of application you're writing then why go to the trouble of listing your qualifications? Just start with "Yo Cyp! Remember me? Promote!" and peace out.

If you want to re-apply and get a position because you deserve it you need to cut out this not-so-subtle play on past history. Entirely up to you, sir: I fully acknowledge that without this "hey buddy!" approach your application is pretty bad.

You point out your previous staff credentials five times and explicitly mention your relationship with the owner. Make up your mind, sir-- I have no idea who you are/were and just reading the opening paragraph made me roll my eyes.

    Support Status: Meh.
(The worst he could do is quit again.)

Thank you very much for the very detailed review of my moderator application. I will take all things into consideration as you do make a lot of great points that I may have not thought about prior to posting this application. I hope that after the changes you may change your stance on whether or not you believe that I should be a moderator.

    Thank you,
    Steal

Thank you as well to the people rating this application 'support' if you could elaborate as to why you support, that would be great as well!

    Support! You were great.
The only objection that I have is why not apply for .NET?
Considering when I was just on .ORG I was literally by myself.

I applied for org because I play on org way more than I play on net. I started out on org and was more engaged in the org community than the one on net. It's always been that way and I feel like I still owe the org community a lot and would like to help out. I do believe that I could moderate net if called upon, but I prefer org due to my roots in the server :)

After seeing you on today answering some new players questions you would make a great .ORG moderator.
    Best of luck! :)
