As much as I need to enforce the rules for the children of the server, I am no means their parents and certainly it is the full responsibility of the parents to mind what their children do on the internet. Many parents dont then the parents blame video games. I was taught not to repeat any of the bad words in songs and on tv. I was sat down and showed what was sexual, what was not, what was a bad word etc and the punishment for using such words was enough to make you not want to do it again. Sometimes some players will use bad language and we cannot enforce it all the time. Sometimes jokes by players or mods may be mature; usually indirectly. That does not mean I will stop making a joke because an 8 year old will follow what I do. That is the parents job to teach them and mind them. By no means am I saying I will break the rules and be dirty, and rude and crude etc. While I enforce all rules, my main target is sexual crudeness which i do not tolerate.
I'm pretty much just going to sum up this thread for you people. As Krissy said, mods aren't the parents of the children on the server, and in no way have to enforce the rules stronger upon the children to protect them from the dangers of the internet. People, look at it this way. Mods didn't sign up to be online babysitters for kids who have parents that couldn't give less of a crap about what their kid does on the internet, but then all of a sudden, when their kid repeats it, the parent freaks out. That isn't a mods job, so don't report it. A mod's job is simply to keep the server free of crude language, sexual references, and, of course, illegal things to do within the server itself. Stop reporting mods for doing things that they should be doing, such as kicking people to protect against these kids, but then using foul language or referencing inappropriate things or items that normally a mod shouldn't do, and usually they don't do. Seriously guys, chill out on the reports and don't come crying to a mod because you let your kid roam the internet for fun, and then they picked up some bad language and repeated it, then got all heated and pissed off and complained on the forums. If a mod kicks you or gives you a punishment, don't report it, as they probably did it for a legitimate reason, and if you seriously believe that it's a problem, then go to the forums and start a conversation with them asking them why they punished you. If all else fails, feel free to report, but don't break out crying and screaming because of something that can only have the blame associated to you. Come on. You, people, are better than this.
Do you not realize the contradictions in what you're saying? I don't know what mods you've been talking to, but they're most definitely not ours if you think that.
I honestly don't because this: The first thing that I said (and you highlighted) was to say that they aren't meant to babysit the kids on the server, but the 2nd thing is meant to say that sometimes they do, just to protect against them every once and awhile. And the 2nd thing, I was talking about most Org mods. I don't know the net mods, as I don't play net much.
You said they "didn't sign up to be online babysitters," and then you said that "kicking people to protect against these kids" is something "that they should be doing." Cool cool.
I also think it is quite hilarious reading the staff reports. Some kids are offended at the smallest things, and get mad at specific mods for doing their jobs. Like WimpoleDavd with all his appeals saying that Lemo is "being mean to him" and that "his parents want Lem to stop banning him for 'no reason'."
Personally, I would tell someone only to make a staff report if the staff member was doing something really bad, staff reports for small things are just useless. And for evidence, cropped screenshots don't work. Its either you have uncropped not edited screenshots or videos showing conversations or actions, or there's no proper evidence that you are showing, therefore the report should be invalid.
Maybe cause you have to click a few buttons to get back in? Idk. Right! Also. If your donor50+, you have to type /fly again, four buttons on the keyboard! OMG
It's not about the key strokes; it's about the principle. Punishing someone unjustly, no matter how minutely, should happen as little as humanly possible.
