Everyone seems to complain about their trees not growing, that is wrong. Because they are placed wrong. People complain of their gen being unefficent and most of their netherrack fall in lava, pfft, easy too fix. First make a 4x4 square, and fill lava like this: And then this: Stand on top of the netherrack block you are going to mine, then break it without moving. Wait til a new block generates, and you will still be inside the block without suffocating, then mine the netherrack and repeat. Want to make a better netherrack gen but you need more than 2 lava for it? This will help. First make this base: Fill with lava in the middle block like this: The lava will be picked up from the sides without netherack Bone: How to use it. As for now, water is unobtainable, why waste bones on seeds? Remove all the glowstone safely, and then bonemeal your sapling, but never break the leaves. You can get more from /ma or /kit bone. Finding your first lava: There are 2 lava sources found on your island, they are located 3 block away from the bedrock under the soulsand. But, be careful! You might get burned! What is the first thing I should do? Mine the soul sand you stand upon, it will grant you one grass block under it, so you can spread the grass to the other dirt block located around it.
