when vote party activates and your inside the mob arena

any keys/grass you get from vote party get removed on exiting the arena

You are correct: If a Vote Party begins while a player is in Mob Arena the additional grass and keys are removed when the Arena completes. This is a known problem and not intentional-- we have it on the list of bugs to fix. Many apologies for anything you may have lost, sir. Thank you for reporting the issue.
