What happens when air is heated?

Well, let's do a little experiment. (Please do not attempt this alone if you are under the age of 13. you guys! Be safe.)

    What you'll need:
    1. A balloon
    2. Empty Bottle
    3. Pot of hot water (Not Boiled)

    Instructions:
    1. Stretch the balloon over the mouth of the bottle. (Must already be filled with air)
    2. Put the bottle inside of the pot that is filled with the hot water
    3. Watch what happens

What is happening is the air inside the balloon begins to heat up and starts to expand. The molecules begin to move away from one another and at a faster pace. The balloon stretches because of this reaction of the molecules. The same amount of air is in the balloon and bottle it has just expanded because of the heat. Thus explaining what happens when air is heated. Warm air takes up more space than cold air does when occupying the same space.

Thanks for reading What happens when...
