Natural mob farm not working

Hello!

Im new to skyblock but got to the point of building my first natural mob farm. I turned on hostile mob spawning in settings and can guarantee it works as a skeleton immediately killed me after spawning in a dark area! Just not getting any spawning in the actual farm!

Ive got photos to show. I followed a simple water tutorial and made sure to put half slabs on top of the roof to stop anything spawning there.

also, its over 20 blocks from my spawn point

What am I missing? HELP!

 

Is there water inside the mob farm?

 

yes, i first made it with a water block on each corner to reach to the 2x2 hole. then changed it to 4 channels leading to the hole. nothing is spawning at all in there

 

mobs can’t spawn in water you need to have blocks the mobs can spawn on before they walk into water

 

You need to be about 28 blocks away for the best chance of hostile mobs to spawn

 

I just logged back in after making the water channels and a couple mobs spawn in! FINALLY! Ill also see if i get more with my home spawn over 28 blocks away.

I just got to figure out how to place signs to stop the water flowing down the hole now as they all get stuck in the hole at the top untillthey die.

 

Yeah I suggest adding lava so they get knocked down to their low health

Its working now, but pretty slow. I put the signs the second block down in the hole to stop the water flowing down and that seemed to do the trick. Ill have a go at the lava once i figure out how

Make sure the water has enough room so that you don't need signs.
