What happens when a Volcano Erupts?

What is a volcano to start us off? Volcano's are mountains or sometimes hills that have craters in them which lava, rock fragments, hot vapor, and gas are or have been erupted from the earth's crust. When an eruption begins from a volcano, pressure forms on a Magma Chamber* and forces the magma up through the conduit* and out the volcano vents. Once the magma chambers are completely filled, the amount of eruption depends mostly on how much gases and silica* are in the magma. The amount of silica in the magma depends on how sticky it is and the water provides the explosive potential and steam. There are other ways to tell what type of explosion it will be. If the pipe is blocked by a stopple* or a big amount of pumice*, the pressure in the pipe will build up so high and eventually create a huge explosion. But not every Volcano erupts. There are different types of volcano:

    Active: Erupts Constantly
    Intermittent: Erupts Regularly
Dormant: Inactive (Not long enough to determine whether they will erupt again)
Extinct: Usually have been inactive since the beginning of recorded history

    *
Magma Chamber: A fair sized pool of liquid rock found beneath the surface of the earth.
Conduit: A channel from moving water or other fluid.
Silica: A hard and colorless compound that occurs as the mineral quartz and as a principle constituent of sandstone and other rocks.
    Stopple: Plugger
Pumice: A light volcanic rock formed when glassy lava becomes a solid very quickly.

Thanks for reading What Happens When...

Make one of these about black holes. They are actually pretty interesting.
