Its not because your phone is outdated, Apple only obsoletes products on main iOS updates, like iOS 9.3.5 was the last update for the 4S.

Try a hard reset by holding both home and power buttons until the apple logo shows.
Or maybe the 5C wasn't supposed to get 10.2.1?

    Haha, no.

In terms of specs, the S7 is the best phone on the market.
Software is down to personal preference, but the S7 has much more features than iPhone.

What error are you getting? Explain a little more perhaps?

Try to hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Then try updating again.

If that doesn't work try update through iTunes. Plug in your phone, open itunes and you should get a notice to update to the latest firmware.

If you are experiencing any other problems you should factory reset your phone which will erase everything on it so you would need to back up contacts, photos etc.
Reset iPhone settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset, then choose an option:
Reset All Settings: All your preferences and settings are reset.
Erase All Content and Settings: Your information, and settings are removed. iPhone cannot be used until it’s set up again.

Iphone 5C still has support for the lastest ios firmware. Apple does not usually drop support until the release of the next major ios update.

    But you never know :/

My galaxy s3 was from 2012 (but I got in 2015) and same for the iPhone 5C.
The older the phone, the less updates it'll get.
