To see when your friends have been on, instead of doing /seen which breaks a lot. It'd be nice. But this has a bigger purpose in mini-game servers. It's just not needed, there's no superior use. You can do /list, do the ol' tab username trick, or just do /seen. I don't know, no support for now, though.
Really the only use I see is that it notifies you when a friend logs on but overall I think it'd be a hassle; just /seen or /msg them
I don't see why... If it is just to see when someone has been on, what is wrong with /seen. It is even shorter than /friend. There are no details about anything that needs to be added. It is the exact same as /seen, so why? It you add more to it, I might support. But for now, no support.
