Server Flaws + Suggestions

Hey, I'm not anyone who has the capability to run a server, but I can't help but to notice some small things that itch me. (<---That makes no sense)

Anyways, Some things to be listed:
- Strong set of rules can be easily fixed by making each island private, if possible. (no interaction with anyone but people in your own island)
- ^With that, you can make an infinite building space. (I'm suffering from the lack of space myself, seeing how your blocks get deleted and you will eventaully bump into another island)
- Administration is good, and hard to do, but mods/admins should help players more ingame. It takes alot of tries before actually getting a mod's attention.
- I don't understand why you guys took out some mob eggs (most people don't have 100 bucks to pay for a mob spawner) Because i keep randomly getting disapearing chickens and having re-breed them. This also happened with my precious cows (no longer avaible) which got deleted with the chickens. <So basically, re-add the mob eggs.
- Scammers are a problem, set up some information somewhere on how to avoid scamming.
- PwnFilter, always finds a way to annoy you. Even thought it's preventing capslock, it should be more loose (ex. no cursing, the "less spammy" can be annoying, + the banned words that ruin the entire sentence)
- Server needs more blackjack and hookers.

I think pwnfilter, trade, and possibly building space should be adressed.

Okay, in order.

1. I'm assuming you mean something like worldguard? Can't. Been tried before, it causes massive amounts of lag, which is why we no longer have such a plugin.

2. Infinite building space on a server, well, that's really not good. If there were a way, it would probably cause more lag than worldguard did. If you want something like that, you'll probably want to do the single player map.

3. We have an almost constant 300 players online. It's quite tough keeping up with everyone, while doing moderation duties or just taking a break and building on our own (hey, we like doing that too). Though we're always looking for people who can actively moderate, most of the time the activity doesn't last forever.

4. Mob eggs are also a contributing factor to massive amounts of lag. Do you know what people do with 2 animals? Breed them. And breed them. And breed them. All until they get giant farms with hundreds of them. That causes a lot of unneeded lag, especially with chickens. Hence, we removed mob eggs. Besides, it's better to have them spawn on their own. At least you get a sense of accomplishment if you can do that.

5. Eventually we'll have a trading plugin. For now, we always say to choose carefully on whom you trade with, since it's not like mods can keep up with that kind of thing. Even if we did set up guidelines to prevent scamming.. who would read them? Yep, the smart people (who wouldn't get scammed anyway) would. Not the others.

6. PwnFilter does need some rework, I'll admit that.

It is hard to moderate 300 people, more so when only 1/2 mods are on, that's 150 people for each mod, while not all need help once a mod says something it's over they get spammed, most of the time with "hi" - In my experience ruins /r message - A lot of the time we're already helping someone else, so we end up multi-tasking to help 2/3 people at once.

If we don't reply people start to spam us or get angry when we ask people to hold on a second, I've built a 12x7 building on my island which used 37 blocks (most was built) since I've gotten mod. Not complaining but that just shows how busy we can actually get and how little we work on our own islands.

Even more so 'Trial Mods' in which we're pretty limited on what we can (helping with griefing etc) as we have to bug someone who can spawn to spawn us stuff and half the time the mod we ask is already busy enough.

 

Wow. A well explained and formatted suggestion, surprised to see one of those.
Anyhow to the point.
1.) We're actually working on that, I'm working on some way to automatically protect all the blocks within a set radius of the center of your island. In less confusing terms, let's say the radius is 50. Nobody would be able to build 50 blocks away from their island.
2.) The problem with infinite space is that the world file constantly gets bigger and bigger as new blocks are placed or people create new islands. Noobcrew is already at my throat because he wants me to figure out how to automatically delete old islands.
3.) I'm not sure this is 100% true, but often it seems like every person on the servers feels the need to ask one mod rather than distributing the questions to all the mods on the server. That, or people get lost in all the other things like "can you teleport me to <insert user here>" and then the mods have to explain why they won't do that. Another common question I see that gets repeated at least 20 times before they give up is "can you spawn me some cow eggs" or something of that nature.
4.) Noobcrew took out some of the eggs because people feel the need to make farms with a thousand chickens/cows; take that into account along with the amount of users playing, and you can understand why it would lag the server. A lot.
5.) I'm thinking of doing a trade plugin.
6.) Here, I have to agree, I've had issues where I couldn't say "Pegboard Nerds" because it doesn't allow "board", and says "you spelled bored wrong."

Great feedback, disproving/approving my ideas. I think the trade plugin is the best idea, also including the 50 block prevention-island thing that Way2Cool said.

It seems you are asking for cursing to be uncensored. There are many young members (including yourself) and as such, these words don't need to be floating around their young minds. Sure, they probably hear them outside of Skyblock, but there's no place for them inside it.

I do agree, though, that making a bad word censor an entire sentence is very disrupting. If the word could simply be replaced with "<censored>" then it would be better.
Or ever fun stuff. The F-bomb could be replaced by zebra, or something of the sort.
I used to be part of a server (can't for the life of me remember what it it even was) that would do that.

 

Seriously? Why'd you have to bring age into this? Age doesn't matter, and I never said cursing was so important and had to be immediately taken away. Everyone was a kid, and just because I am shouldn't prevent me from expressing my opinion. At least I tried. But yeah, f-bombs could be zebras.

 

Because age is what matters. Skyblock is meant to be a "family friendly" server. Children as young as 10 (maybe even less) play on this server. Just because you think you have the right to "express your opinion" doesn't mean the younger ones need to be exposed to such language. Fun fact, you can express your opinion clearly without having to use foul language.

 

Yes, minecraft is a very family-friendly game. When I said my opinion, I meant this thread (because where is community if I can't say what I feel is right) and I never really did curse on the servers. Just saying PwnFilter could be more loose (ex. the "No one cares!" frustrates me). But overall, haha you win. Argument ended, this thread is becoming stupid.

Yes! Pwnfilter is WAY to secure about somethings and not NEARLY secure enough about others.

 

When you are kicked or banned for language/insults/vulgarity/racisim, etc., which the filter did not catch, lol, well the player learns.

TRADE.
Don't expect much in this regard, until and unless more major issues are addressed.
This is not SkyTrade.
Mods are not Trade Police.
Skyblock is not an Insurance company, underwriting player stupidity.
Trading is caveat emptor.

In short, make your island with what you started with.
Donate to get redstone, iron, dirt, sand if you want to safely accelerate your possibilities.
