Last Saturday, when me and my friends had our shop area open, some guy broke through the wall and stole ALL the good stuff. Then, Today, someone literally TORE DOWN THE WALL to our enchantment room and stole the stuff, the enchantment table, the bookcases, all of it. Do you see a simple solution? DON'T ALLOW OUTSIDERS MESS AROUND WITH OUR ISLAND! It's so simple! It's insanely easy to grief someone on this server. If you can please just do this, it would help EVERYONE!

Clever title. It made me smile.

An idea was proposed to make a new skyblock plugin that would automatically protect islands a while back, I don't recall why it never happened. I believe I was the one who was working on it but I never got it 100% bug free (by now, all the code is lost forever :c) Best thing you can do is contact staff and get them to roll it back, for now.

it did happen, on a server called skyblock.org, Nets sister server, its updated to 1.7 and Net will never have protection because that would mean having to reset the whole server and all the islands, therefore leading to the crashing of the server due to loss of players.

There are ways to make a secure room that only donors 100+ can escape from, which can help somewhat to reduce the incidence of griefing.

I don't get it. So we surround the exterior of the structure with lava?

.org actually did it? Man I have some pretty bad memory loss. Anyways, I don't believe it was my plugin that ended up getting used. As far as .net, one thing we could never convince Noobcrew of is the fact that it's very easy to migrate old island data to a new format for the new plugin. He'd rather not go through the trouble.

There would be a TON of lag due to every island being protected

Actually, if programmed correctly, it wouldn't be that bad. Think about this.
    Method 1

A block is placed. Go through every island's protection data, see if that block's location is there. If so, cancel the block place.

Result? Lots of lag. Every time someone places a block, the plugin may potentially have to go through every single file to find the correct data.

    Method 2

Have some sort of 'queue.' When a block is placed, search through island protection data, see if a block's location is there, if so, cancel the event. Also, move that island's protection data to the front of the queue.
More often than not, people are going to try to place blocks more than once. Now that this island is at the front of the queue, it doesn't have to index each island to find the information it needs. Instead, it goes to the top of the queue and finds the information there.

    Result? Much better performance.

Edit: Might I mention, in method 2, what I mean is, without the queue, the plugin would have to read from the hard drive every time a block is placed. Using method 2, the plugin checks for the information it needs the server's memory (much much faster), if it doesn't find it there, search on the hard drive. This would result in higher memory usage, but also higher performance.

Edit 2: Can there be a "Your thinking is reasonable, but not always correct" rating for posts? Because I really wish there was in this situation.

The bottom line is, it's been tried before, and the lag was too great. To do it now would require a complete reset, which is obviously not feasible for a server with this many players and islands.

Nuuu, no wonder it was taking so long to edit!

Build a room out of lockette'd furnaces, to prevent the blocks being broken, then surround it with lava. Any one who tries to do /jump will burn to death. For extra protection surround ur room with multiple layers of furnaces/lava, so they'd have to do multiple /jumps. As I said, this wont protect you against 100+ donors as they have /god

if you want an unbreakable wall, use lots of chests, furnaces, etc, at private them all. takes a long time but worth it for unbreakable room
