Do you have enough RAM? How much memory you got left?
I would try to divert some ram to programs you use a lot

I can use 1.75 gigs of RAM, but the funny thing is this only started happening again once I switched my computer to another outlet. I tried changing the cord that connects the outlet to the adapter but it only makes the computer live like 5 minutes longer. >.>
