While I agree with that, I think everyone is done with the attitude that the attention whores seek. I've already seen someone in this thread that actually disagreed with this a year and ago
^ This. I cannot stress this more. I agree that it is frustrating to see some people who complain about their depression without any effort to improve themselves. But real depression exists and if posting attention-probing statuses is their way to cope, then so be it. Even if it's annoying as hell it's not hurting anyone, like Lime said.
To all those, who said about people really suffering depression or any other disorders and need to release their stress: there is help online and this topic has been widely discussed in one of Onision's videos. The purpose of this thread was not really to offend someone, the purpose of this thread is for people to understand that this community is not required in such depressing and demotivational statuses. If you really need help, bring it to PM or search for professional help online, but don't talk about it publicly. Don't share your negative with others.
This type of topic is very... hard to approach. Unless you have the illness or you have had something that has made you feel the despair you really have no clue. There are people on the internet who whine about their lives and all they want is attention. They have practically made depression look like a complete joke, and an annoyance to those who already have barely any understanding. Sometimes I look on tumblr and see all the things people make about depression and it is very cliche. But let us not forget that depression is a real illness, it is something a lot of people feel and sometimes the best outlet is being creative. But as you can see, not everyone has the same tolerance for sadness. I am no saint in my past, I made the mistake of thinking kids could get this sort of thing and sure enough they really dont. I dont want to make others sad but then again, they can ignore it. So, It is your choice what you post on your wall and honestly i dont think this will stop anyone posting demotivational statuses because of this, and if they do, well done you have made the forums 50% less depressing. However just know that if you do want to post something and you think its a little sad, or it might make someone else feel worse, dont post it. I will just keep doing what I usually do because I can.
Don't agree with everything in that post however she has a point. Although it's pretty obvious that the majority of minecraft users have problems, whether they be their own fault or cause by external influences. People could not choose the lives they were born into. Minecraft, in this case skyblock is their way of escaping their life so its not really our place to judge them. Think of them what you wan't but it won't help if you throw it in their face We all have problems, just remember to treat others as you'd like to be treated.
Look, I have a friend in real life and her mother is extremely depressed. She got divorced with her husband a few years ago because he decided to live with other woman. She dedicated all time and effort in that relationship, she understood that 15 years of their marriage were all for nothing. She lied on the couch for days, didn't eat and drink anything, people at first thought she was just really, really sad. But after a month, they hospitalized her and she got diagnosed with an actual depression. After months in hospital, her health condition improved for a bit, however letting her out of the hospital was the biggest mistake. She ended up drinking a lot and eventually she became an alcoholic and her health condition became real bad. Why I just told that story is because people with depression, they at first don't know even about it and even if they do, they don't really talk about it in public with everyone (ChibiBerry). If you have real problems, get online or doctor's help, they sure know how to help you, unlike Minecrafters.
Similar story. Sometimes just knowing someone has a similar experience can help someone through a difficult time if thats what their depression is. But if it is severe and ongoing, it isn't normal and thats when you need to step away and get the help you need to come through.Whether that is medication, counselling etc. Here isn't the best place to get the help but there are some supportive people around.
but bb ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It's not that I am not accepting of people with depression; it's just that posting depressing things does nothing except make other people feel the same way. If you really want to help yourself, see a doctor or confide in a friend you're connected with, not the entire community.
