Hello everyone, I just had two ideas for how to make Spambot handling easier and quicker. Well let me start. Give hand-picked players permissions to delete threads from public Why? Because there isn't always staff on and well especially from 5 - 11am GMT there's lots of Spambots. By allowing certain trusted members the ability to remove these, less people will click on the links. But, isnt it abusive? You have to know, there's two functions of deleting threads. Delete Delete makes threads invisible for the public. That means moderators can make it visible again. Hard-delete Removes the thread completely. That means it isn't abusive if you allow them to only delete from public. There could also be a little chat where they link the threads so Moderators can hard-delete it. As said, the players must be trusted as they could delete threads of others for no reason. But it's easy to control as the name of the person who deleted something will be shown. If abused they will be demoted from their permissions and the thread will be visible again. They could be able to see reports and handle the ones regarding to Spambots. Make an information post about Spambots I didn't find any but I think there should be one. A thread that explains what they look like, what they do etc. This will prevent people who are newer to forums from clicking it. You could just make a sticky post in one of the forums. This is why we have mods, probably the best thing to do is just add forum mods, or just add email confirmation.
Forum mods could be useful for cleaning up inactive threads, but as for taking care of spam bots I say myself and other mods do a pretty good job of taking care of them. It really helps to report the post they made, because not all the time we see the threads. Also no need to hard delete the threads normal deleting is fine. Most of the things you brought up are already added you just haven't seen it. Example: When someone deletes a thread I can see the deleted thread, why they deleted it (if they choose to put a reason) and who deleted the thread. I believe email confirmations was added a bit ago I'm not quite sure though.
Oh ok. Well when I was on today, there wasn't a staff for over 30 minutes, other than that I am sure you do a good job on that! Also, uhm there currently isn't any email confirmation.
Cypriot updated the forums on Mineverse and added something to remove the spambots, I haven't seen one in almost a month on there. Cyp said he was going to update these forums soon, so we'll see. I guess for the time being a information thread about the spambots would be good for informing people, I don't mind making one if no one else has started making one.
Hard deleting should never be enabled, if a mod does go abusive it makes recovering the forums too much harder.
Ok thanks for clearing that up, I thought you did with spambots as there is so many and it would still show it when you guys view the forums
