Professions - Kits, bonuses & special attributes!

    This system would introduce a variety of "jobs" or professions anyone could take on in-game. Each profession yields a kit related to it, bonuses when doing certain things, and unique abilities! They also come with a prefix with the name of the profession, and it does not overlap donor prefixes.
    For example, [Profession][Rank]Crawling

    I am proposing this because I feel it would add more diversity into the chat, improving the community and the market. Each profession's prefix is a different color, and would greatly decrease the gap between green bean and donor messages.

    Let's get started on the actual professions, yes?

    To acquire a profession, you must do /job select ( profession name ). You will now have a prefix that is the first letter of your profession in the color stated below. ( [H] [M] etc. )
    You can switch your profession, but only once every 7 days.
    The professions are as listed:

    - Hunter [Hunter]
    - Mason [Mason]
    - Lumberjack [Lumberjack]
    - Fisherman [Fisherman]
    - Farmer [Farmer]

    Each profession can gain XP ( or more than usual XP ) by performing certain tasks. They also have specific traits that put them apart from the other jobs, to increase variety.

    Here is a list explaining all professions individually with more detail and a complete overview of them:

    ( Note: some effects may seem overpowered, but in all, they are not. )

    [Hunter]
    This job gains increased benefits from slaying mobs ( peaceful and hostile ), and takes less damage overall.

    Kit - /kit Hunter. Can be used once every 3 days. Contains 32 arrows, one non-enchanted bow, a full set of leather armor and a stone sword.
    Effects - Resistance 1, permanently until switching out of the profession.
    Attributes - Has a chance to give double drops when killing a mob.

    [Mason]
    This job is mainly for stone lovers. You can break it faster, and get special drops too!

    Kit - /kit Mason. Can be used once every 3 days. Contains 1 stone pickax, 8 cobblestone, 8 stone and 1 coal.
    Effects - Haste 1, permanently until switching out.
    Attributes - Has a very small chance to drop ores from cobblestone and stone, upon breaking.

    ( By ores, I mean coal, iron, gold, lapis and redstone, in instances of 1 to 3. )

    [Lumberjack]
    This job ( hence it's name ) specializes in growing and cutting down trees.

    Kit - /kit Lumberjack. Can be used once every day. Contains 16 oak logs, 1 oak saplings, 3 bonemeal and a stone ax.
    Effects - Haste 1, permanently until switching out.
    Attributes - Has a chance to double wood drops upon breaking them.


    [Fisherman]
    Specializes in catching tasty fishes.

    Kit - /kit Fisherman. Can be used once every 3 days. Contains 1 fishing rod, 4 cooked fish & 8 raw fish, Aqua Affinity leather helmet.
    Effects - Water breathing, until switching out.
    Attributes - Less chance of catching junk from fishing, and a higher chance to catch actual fish. Also has a chance to catch XP bottles & cooked fish from fishing.

    [Farmer]
    Uses ancient black magic to help with harvesting and planting crops. Not really, but it's still good for crops.

    Kit - /kit Farmer. Can be used once every 3 days. Contains 8 bonemeal, 1 stone hoe, 1 of each crop except for nether wart.
    Effects - Speed 1, until switching out.
    Attributes - Chance to double drops when harvesting crops that are fully grown.

    Edit : Debuffed most of the kits, increased cooldowns on many things. Tweaked it so it's more feasible.

    Support, except for the mason. Free iron shouldn't be given out once every day.

    I can't see how this would make it any less fun.. elaborate for me, would you?

    This isn't ( except for the iron part, which I'm removing ) OP at all. It's just so players can take a new perspective on what they do, and get more involved with each other. For example, maybe someone is a Lumberjack. They own an island, and recruit a Mason and such. It'd make it more worthwhile to recruit more people to their islands, and thus make the server more fun.

    Maybe, but this would ruin the economy , like the mason or whatever can drop diamond from stone? AND haste!?

    It's an extremely small chance. Plus, we need to reduce the rich & poor gap anyways. Haste 1 isn't OP at all, also.

    skyblock has remained 'skyblock' (except for a few months back in 2013 where it was skyharmony) since the beginning. We have had everything, from mob arenas, to pvp areas, to awesome warp builds. This idea would change Skyblock to something's its not meant to be... Skyblock is about gaining resources, selling things and succeeding to be rich and 'the best' in skyblock, not standing at my cobble/stone gen for hours on end, gaining many resources and becoming rich that way. It destroys the whole idea crew has tried to make skyblock into. This plug would be for a prison, like the one that Ssundee (YouTuber) owns, not for a survival server.mon the contrary, I love change, but this will turn skyblock into something it's not. Skyblock needs diversity, not grouping.mo also don't understand how this will work. If I choose to be a hunter, the only thing I basically will do it stand at /warp mob, and spam kill mobs just to get a little extra xp. Mason and fisherman are ok, because many people break and fish and farmer basically Gives you nothing, but a chance more keeping and getting more seeds. Also, the kits are too overpowered. Why should you get something for nothing? Everyday I cam claim any of those kits, and sell the items, making money of something that's not meant to of made money from. /kits from the shop are different because you buy them, so don't bring those into the argument. I know Krissy_ and Kerahna will have a strong view exact to mine, so I'm tagging them as well. Supermods, arguably, are some of the smartest people when it comes to the server, so their input is very valuable

    Also, to add to my no support, what if this gets implimented and people don't want to get a job because they didn't support it, does that mean we will always be in chat [donor] [jobless] Flutters. That isn't appealing to anyone who doesn't want to have a part in this. I don't want a skyblock where all I do to get things and bonuses is type a few words, I want a skyblock with honest, working people, not a freeloading /kit abuser and bonus user who does nothing for the community.

    I appreciate the feedback, but just because someone is a Supermod doesn't mean what they say is right. Now don't take this as me saying they are always wrong, but everyone has a different opinion.

    First off, this would definitely not destroy the server. It's not OP at all. The only part that could even be considered OP are the effects, and even they wouldn't have much gravitation on how the server works.

    Secondly, what's so bad about the kits? They give virtually nothing, and you can only claim them once a day. Taking into consideration that you can only switch your job once every 3 days, even multiplying the kit items by 3 doesn't seem like much. The kits are only meant to be a teeny tiny boost related to your job; to get you started on what you need to do to get farther.

    Quoting yourself, "Why should you get something for nothing?" I have lost some respect in you. You're basically saying that everything should have a price, and you're supporting the rich with that. All players are supposed to be equal. It's key to having a good server. If you're going to separate the two biggest groups on a server, it's going to degrade faster and faster, day by day. All communities need a stable gap in wealth.

    Lastly, I'm pretty sure this plugin would have absolutely no point on a prison server... that's all I can say about this topic.

    I don't mean to sound arrogant or anything, like I'm pushing my own beliefs onto you, but from what I've read in your comment, you have not read the entire thing. Just play it out in your head. In reality, this is a suggestion that would have a very noticeable yet subtle impact on the server. It'd give it that slight tinge of diversity; that everyone has a job to do, and to better your living you need to help each other.

    That's pretty selfish in my opinion.. just because you're a donor doesn't mean you are treated like royalty. Instead of bathing in the negatives ( which to be honest, there are virtually none ), you keep the hate to yourself. If you aren't going to contribute or at least point out something valid, don't comment.

    Again- I have no intention of being rude here -but if you're just going to list downsides and nothing else, leave now. It's no fun reading comments like this. There are much better ways to word replies along these lines, and I suggest you use constructive criticism. For instance, suggest something we can do to prevent an issue, rather than overstating what it actually is, and promoting it to be something vile.

    Skyblock is about helping people and bridging the gap between rich and poor, as well as building and surviving. If people get kits, they will just /kit and log off (most lower donators and green beans), not contributing anything to anyone. And no, it won't slowly bridge the gap between rich and poor, both groups of people will have these kits and bonuses, meaning they will go up with the poor community, thus never really closing any gap, just Making the server get so rich that is slowly goes into inflation and destroys the economy, making crew have serious thoughts of a reset, which most people won't want for .net, including myself, highlighting your second and third points.

    I said that it is already used in prison servers, not should be used, thus my argument.

    I read the entire thing, and it basically says use a command, get free stuff from kits, get specific bonuses while in a specific group, and somehow be equal to everyone else of that same group. I slight tinge of diversity is not good enough, there needs to be more in a server like this. Not specifically rich and poor diversity, but player diversity. If you group the entire population into those sorts of groups, where's the difference between people? Why, in that sense, do we play skyblock to do different things, when we will ultimately be the same? It's a stupid reason. I do agree with you on everyone playing a part and helping the community, but not like this. People help in their own way, and I for one don't want to be told how to contribute. I do drop parties, competitions, giveaways etc, this plugin won't change what I do at all, just with many, many others, hence obsolete.

    I used my donor status as an example, not as a point. In total, people who don't want to do this will have an ugly [jobless] prefix, which no one wants. Also, you say I shouldn't comment negative things,mane for me to stay out of this thread, your just trying to hide the bad things with this idea, which, in turn, is selfish. All my points are my views, and thus constructive to see what people think about this idea. Before you start getting defensive and offencive, think from the minds of other people, not just your own

    It's clear to me that I'm bothering you, seeing how "offended" you're getting. I am not in any way attempting to brag here, but I can clearly see you are only trying to act smart. You're fishing out words I've previously used in order to make yourself seem right. It's really obvious... I mean, you're using them wrong for the most part.

    Moving on to how "I'm just trying to hide the bad things with this idea." that's pretty pathetic. It's human nature to fear the unknown. This ( suggestion ) would be quite a big change to the server, and without analyzing it profoundly would give someone the idea that it is overpowered. It's truly not..

    In all seriousness now, I know I am going to get a lot of negativity from this comment, but your grammar is awful. I know, some people will say;

    "But Crawling, you can't judge someone and how they act just based off of their grammar! You're an idiot."

    Oh jeez, if I could only tell you how annoyed that get's me. It's absolutely possible to gain knowledge about a persons mood from the way they use grammar. The more stressed you get, you generally type faster, and make more mistakes. From what I've seen and studied ( yes, I've studied in this field ), people of lesser knowledge or the ones victimizing themselves will also have more instances of grammatical mistakes, and stutters if they are speaking. They know the odds are against them, and they will try to act as quick as possible, to steer clear of any harmful things that may come their way.

    I cannot fathom how many varied opinions I will get for saying things like this. No one likes people like me, who constantly expose people.

    If you continue to plague my thread with your nonsensical thoughts, I will request that your comments be deleted, and this thread ( sadly ) locked. I never intended for this thread to take such an apathetic turn, however it did.

    Mate, you said yourself fear the unknown, well, here is the unknown. My grammar is bad because I am too lazy to go to my computer to write this, so it is on my iPad, and nothing makes sense from an iPad.

    Also, if you want to get into games of judging other people's intellectuality, not bragging myself, but most likely I am smarter, and thus better than you. I'm not getting offended, I'm getting pissed that you won't take what I have said as my opinion, not as fact, and replying to me as such. Yes, I finally agree with something you say, "no one likes people like me" you think you are higher than everyone else, thus thinking you are always right and taking down people whom you think are wrong. If you do request a mod to delete my comments. The only ones that will be deleted will be these argumentative ones, not ones that have my opinion for my idea. If this thread gets locked or deleted, no offence, but it won't matter because it won't be added anyway

    I can see the good in this and the bad.
    For starters if this was implemented there would be no changes to the prefixes. It would look horrible in chat.

    Next no kits. Unless it's a once off kit it will never happen. It's hard to get back kit sapling let alone kits based on a profession. The kits would also need to be no more that the tool they would use to complete their task, which can be easily obtained anyway. Kits are specifically for donors. So for regular kits they would have to be fairly underpowered.

    Now the idea of choosing a profession and getting exp and things like that is good. People need something to keep themselves occupied and have some goals.
    I remember a jobs plugin on an old skyblock server that I joined and it was great except I didn't know how to use it. It didn't give and kits or extra anything.

    Suggestions like this get considered but already similar suggestions have been denied.

    I see where you're coming from and thank you for not openly stating your aggression unlike some people here, but I have to say that having unique colored prefixes for everyone might not look that bad. Maybe instead of having a full name, for instance [Lumberjack] it could just be [L]? That would seem fair to me, and it would look a lot better compared to just having plain green names and white chat and then names with obnoxious color everywhere.

    About the kits.. you really cant say that kits are specifically for donors. That makes it sound like it's pay2win.. and that isn't so much a good thing. This wouldn't really feel right without kits. Instead of removing them, how about debuff them ( as if they didn't suck already ) and increase the cooldown on themselves and the time frame needed to wait to change your job? That'd keep it steady.

    Kits are for donors at least in the sense advanced kits, but doesnt make it p2w. There is nothing to win on skyblock. You just build and island so you pay either because you love the server or you want more commands.
    To do the job you have you wouldn't need a kit. To make professions more realistic the kit will have to be once off or very long wait between or people will start to change professions to get items. Also making people provide their own tools is fairly realistic so providing your own items to do your job.
    Job changes need to have a large cooldown too. only allow 2 job changes per account.
    As for haste and things, probably not needed if the kit contains an enchanted tool.
    I dont quite like the idea of 2 prefixes though it would appear similar to orgs global chat, which is not too bad.
