Do you remember opening any suspicious links, suspicious websites, or giving away your password to anyone?

First, try to change your password. Log out of anything that you're logged into (websites, game launcher), then if you were able to change the password, try to log in again. If you have an old Minecraft account that logs in with a username instead of an email, after a password reset, you should migrate to the newer Mojang account format.

I did all of that already and no need to migrate my account, it's quite new

I believe thats the only steps you need to take. for the account side of things. Of course if you want to go a bit deeper you should do a full clean up of your computer for viruses and other malware. I think you should be fine. If not convinced do a google search and see what happened in other cases just like yours.

Run malwarebytes, or install it if you don't have it already

If you find a keylogger you'll have to redo the steps from the beginning

Since he said he didnt open anything malicious, i would say a keylogger to gain minecraft account info is extreme, but none the less, so check for viruses and other things

In this day and age you can get a virus just by opening an external picture. Virus could also have been a sleeper.

Of course... Just curious as to who would want to hack a minecraft account... And if it's something he downloaded or opened that is minecraft related that would have set grabbed details.
This takes me back to the semester I did on computer security

You're making the very bad assumption of people will only hack you for valuable things. Everything has wealth, whether it be worth real money or value. People will hack accounts then attempt to get it banned or clean it out.

I have seen Club Penguin accounts hacked, I have seen people lose over $15,000 worth in items and I have seen people get their accounts permanently closed due to hackers. It's all possible and it all means nothing to the hacker, MineCraft is full of mostly children who just want easy items, so really they could have hacked him and then traded all the stuff and changed his password etc. so he cannot get back on to find out who did it.

Anything is possible, it also doesn't need to be MineCraft related, if he has a keylogger then they could just be sweeping through all his accounts/passwords for everything. You did computer security and yet you pretty much told him not to do a virus scan? You should do one monthly, even if you don't download things often, a lot of PUP's out there.

SargeLouie how do you know its hack? As you said "My account is apparently hacked". Have you actually had evidence with your own eyes someone has hacked your account?
