    Since the equation cannot be factored with (x-a)(x+b) We must use a quadratic equation. :)

    x= -b+/-sqrt(b^2-4(ac))/2a
    x= -4+/-sqrt(4^2-4(2*-4))/2(2)
    x= -4+/-sqrt(16-(-32))/4
    x= -4+/-sqrt(48)/4
    x= -4+/-4sqrt(3)/4
    x= -1+/-sqrt(3)

    EDIT: Image attached for clearance.

    Well, I did:
    2x^2+4x-4=0
    ........2............2
    x^2+2x-2=0
    .............+2 +2
    x^2+2x=2.............(2/2)^2=1^2=1
    x^2+2x+1=2+1
    (x+1)^2=3 Take square root of both sides
    x+1=+/-√3
    ...-1...-1
    x=-1+/-√3

    Simple. It doesn't. You cannot add, multiply, divide, subtract, etc infinites. It just doesn't work. Infinity +1 is still infinity, infinity/2 is still infinity. It's such an abstract concept that most people can't get it through their head that infinity just doesn't work like that.

    The answer is infinity. The sum of an infinite series (so long as d>1) is infinite.
