Hello, Sky/Hell Blockers. You may not have met me before, so I'll begin my thread with a quick introduction. I'm Jack, as my username suggests, and I play regularly on Hellblock. Now that's over and done with, on to the purpose of this thread.

We all know that you will receive a small reward in-game for voting for the servers online. On Hellblock, it will be a reward of two cobblestone, along with a slight possibility for an added on reward (some of the ones I know of are three iron ingots, one enchanting table, an additional cobblestone, and five additional cobblestone). These are good rewards, and well worth the time for voting. However, once you reach a certain economical status on a server, where cobblestone isn't really a problem for you, or some other way in which you don't need cobblestone, there isn't really much incentive to vote. It is for that reason that I am suggesting a reward given to one player a month of a rank up for donator ranks, if, and only if, you have the most votes out of anybody for Sky or Hell Block.

I believe that this would be a good addition to the servers because:

    1. It gives people a greater incentive to vote

    2. It would enable people unable to get donator ranks due to fiscal reasons to have a chance at getting a rank

    3. All in all, it would make voting a more rewarding experience

Now, you may have spotted a couple of problems with this idea, some of which I will address right now.

Problem 1: What if the top voter has already gotten the top donator rank, and would thus make this system worthless to them?

Answer 1: Some other reward (be it thirty cobblestone, or some other good reward) would be given to said donator, thus making the process well worth their time.

Problem 2: Isn't it something of a waste to simply give ranks away?

Answer 2: Voting, as we all know will drive traffic to the server. The more votes we receive, the higher we climb on the "Best Minecraft Servers" charts, and the more people will see this. Let's assume that one out of every ten players on Hellblock (I'm unsure about Skyblock) will donate. Let's also assume that the additional votes will drive an additional 10% of players to the server. One out of that ten percent will donate, and hopefully 3 out of that ten percent will remain active on the server, voting often. With that increase, it makes the economical expense of this implementation quite worth it.

Problem 3: What if the same person just starts winning it every month?

Answer 3: As human beings, one of our most primary needs is competition. If somebody is winning the voting every month, odds are a lot of us will want to take away their title. So, people will begin voting more often, benefiting the server hugely.

Problem 4: What about a draw?

Answer 4: In the event of a draw, the players would all receive rank-ups. As explained in Problem 2, the economical expense of this system is far outweighed by the benefits.

Thank you for bearing with me through this post, and I hope you liked the idea. If you didn't, please post what was wrong with it so I can stay up all night thinking up solutions to the problem you bring up. There's no such thing as a perfect idea, so it helps massively if you give constructive criticism here.

    ~Jack/jackw141

Edit: Just to clarify. The voting competitions would be separate for the two servers, so one Skyblock and one Hellblock player would receive a rank-up every month. Not sure if I made that clear earlier.

Complete support. We could make it like MV and have the top 5 voters each month receive a rank. :)

joecobo, there is one problem with what you suggest. Handing out five donator ranks a month at minimum seems a bit excessive. In the event of a tie, it could reach numbers of 10 people per month. I think the one rank plus the tie rule would be sufficient to efficiently drive traffic to the server via voting.

There was this in early-ish 2013 for .net, the top three voters every month would receive a 10, 25, and 50 donator packages resoectively. You might've seen UnseenBerry come on, he was one of the winners of the 50 package. This was when Skyblock had 3-4 sites that your vote would give grass blocks and would register your vote. So not everyone knew about that so that separated rated a lot of the winners and the losers. Now with only 1 vote site that registers, there would be a ton of draws. I suggest instead that when you vote a certain amount of times a month, such as 25 in a previous event where you get a free spawner. But this time, instead of receiving a prize, you receive a chance to win a grand prize such as a donor status, this would greatly eliminate the massive amounts of ties or draws. 75% support.

Your idea is a good one, and it brings to my attention the probability of a mass tie.
However, the odds of more than three players voting every single day for a whole month seem pretty low to me. While this may not be true for Skyblock, on Hellblock, at least, the majority of voters are Lavagods, 100 tier donators. Their rank isn't increasing by winning voting, they're just getting a substantial reward. For that reason, maybe the implementation of what you suggest may not be needed. I suggest we try it for two months without that system, and if that system is needed after that period, implement it for sure.

I'm sorry if I'm being a dud here. Anyways, how do you want this to be done?

    Admins:
They have enough on their plates to count all the votes. I'm pretty sure it would be a hassle to figure out who has voted the most.

    Plugin Based Rewards:
The plugin used to receive votes on the server is GAListener. This plugin gives you rewards for each vote. It gives rare items on rare votes. What it doesn't do is count votes. You would need a plugin that works with this. We would need a developer to make a plugin that would give players a rank after a certain amount of votes or they castes the most votes.

Also, voting with GAListener gives rewards on all servers. This is because the sites have the same Public Key. (I think :p)

I like this idea, it would be great with the new EULA enforcement. Although, in my opinion it would be too hard to put into action. I'm going to stay neutral in this.

It would be hard in my opinion to implement (timing it to be one month), but seeing I know nothing on the essentials system and I may be wrong, and with the EULA rule, I support, gives Mojang a reason not to force donor ranks loosing the perks since non-donors can obtain them.

Wouldn't be a hassle, crew used to have something that recorded how many times you've voted in the month.

In my opinion it would be, but however, if they are willing to do it, I support.

I say it would be GREAT for Hellblock, but .net NO WAY. It's to big. It would overload to much and cause more lag. Look at the chat, someone says something every second. >.> I say hellblock because it could grab more people. ;)

A little off topic, but how would it overload the server?

Well, not "overload". As in like the server WOULD always be full. As someone mentioned it would get more people.
I say it would be a good idea for hellblock because its so small they could count the votes a little easier.
