A detailed guide about the amazing art of chest making and opening them.

In this thread you'll learn the amazing art of crafting a chest and how to open it, I hope you enjoy such quality and admire the time this has taken. This is made for .org by the way so it may be different for you .net people.

What is a chest? Chest - Minecraft Wiki

1. Getting materials:
All the materials you need can be found naturally on your island when you start it, you need a thing commonly known as a "tree" amazing right? You can use any type of tree as long as it's on your island and not another's.

Types of trees:
-Jungle trees
-Spruce trees
-Birch trees
-Oak trees
-Acacia trees
-Dark oak trees

2. Chopping down a tree and the items it creates: Once you find a tree you'll then have to chop it down with your bare hands (you hold down the left button on the mouse while your curser is facing in the direction of the wood block, 4 blocks or less away.) or with an axe made out of anything, you do not need a axe to chop down a tree, this is optional but the use of an axe makes it break faster.
If you have done it right you'll have items in your inventory that you have collected with the name "wood" following after the type of wood it is.

E.g I chop a tree down a tree which was an acacia tree, the name of the items I collect from it would be called "Acacia wood"

Note: the random stuff next to the item name is called the "Item ID" this is useful for creating chestshops with items that haven't been added to the chestshop plugin yet.

3. Making wooden planks:
Press "E" to admire your wood before placing your mouse over it and then press the left mouse button (don't hold it in) on your mouse, when I say mouse I mean the one that should be connected to your computer and not move by itself or make "squeaking noises" when touched.

To turn the wood into planks you move the wood up into the crafting section in your inventory, press the left mouse button again to release them. After you have placed them there left click the wooden planks in the box to the right of the crafting section. You need to click that box at least 2 times so you have enough wood the complete the process.

4. Producing the chests:
The make a chest all you need is 8 wooden planks, to make them form into the chest you need to right click a crafting table to make this menu like tab pop up.


You then select the planks once again (by left clicking the planks once) and when holding the planks use the right click button to place a plank block in all of the 9 by 9 spaces not including the middle one so it'll look like this:

Note: if you have more then 8 planks you can make more chests or if you don't want more then one you leave the excess out of the grid and place it back in your inventory by releasing it again by pressing the left click button on your mouse.

Left click the chest to make it and place it back in your invent by using the left click button.

Note: Make sure the the chest is in your last row at the bottom also known as your "Hot bar"

5. Placing the chest:
To place a chest you right click the ground with the chest in your hand.


6. Creating double chests:
To make a double chest you repeat the steps (skip 1-3 if you have left over planks minimum 8) 1-5 and then place another chest next to the existing chest so then they'll join to make a larger one.


7. How to open a chest:
To open a chest you right click it (you have to be in a 4 block radius of the chest) but you have to ensure there is no blocks above it as it will cause it not to open if there is. Stairs and slabs are ok cuz minecraft logic. When the chest is open you can fill it up with whatever items you feel that need to be in it.

Chests close automatically when you press the "E" button on your keyboard.

Wait you can make trapped chests?

 

Yep, They send out redstone signals when it is opened. They can be put next to regular chests. They require a chest and a triphook wire.

 

How d'you make them? And whats the point of them? You can't open them in creative

 

When you open them they emit a Redstone signal mentioned above, and they can be opened in creative. You can't place a lockette on them though.
