Declined Suggestion: Make /fly free

Suggestion: since there are competitions hosted on the servers, then having to pay for fly is probably against the Minecraft Eula anyway. Maybe you could allow fly hacks or give fly to people who vote. Another option might be to remove the competitions and anything else that might be considered competitive gameplay. What do you think?

 

Don't see this happening as many players have already paid for it.

With regards to the server violating the EULA, it has done for a long time in this regard as there are a few perks that give an advantage over other players when it comes to leaderboards/competitions.

 

That's a great point. Users who have payed for fly will not like it. Maybe it would be fair to give them gift card credits to purchase something that doesn't give them a competitive advantage.

I don't understand the "it has been done for a long time" thing. Is that an argument for or against free fly?

Yeah, I'm a complicated person, but if I was mocking anything it was the implied attitude of "we've gotten away with it forever, so what's the big deal it's not like someone's going to come shut us down".

suggestions like these have been made time and time again in the past. people have the “things are going to stay the same” perspective on this because they have seen suggestions like this been turned down by the server time and time again over the past.

according to the server management, the server is currently in compliance with eula. Regardless of whether or not that’s true, nothing is going to change unless mojang themselves step in and force compliance.

it’s a great concept in theory, but i don’t see any scenario where a server making a significant amount of money from the donation store just willingly removes their perks without the big bad giant mojang stepping in.

but it has been shown time and time again that mojang has little to no interest in actually enforcing said eula, so of course servers are going to continue gaming the system because they know they won’t be stopped

 

Giving people /fly for free would be a little problematic for the server itself. While I definitely think /fly is an extremely useful command to have, it's definitely not the type of thing most servers would ever give away for free, especially considering the age of this server, I do not see this ever happening.

Addressing some of the ideas you have brought up regarding /fly, while it may violate EULA, this server has had a variety of things similar to that, and I do not believe simply bringing EULA up would change anything. Additionally, simply giving gift cards to people who have paid for fly would cause HUGE issues and is simply unreasonable. Many players buy Skylord simply for /fly, and others upgrade past that but expect /fly with it, which would leave a question of how much would you give each person? Well.. no matter how you look at it, the amount of Skylords+ over the long period the server has been up, this would mean way too many gift cards, especially the question of how would you even give a gift card to the Skylords+ who have not played for a long time? Any sort of compensation such as this simply wouldn't make sense for the server.

I do think a free /fly could be an interesting idea, but.. the thing is, it would have to have high value, and at this point, the closest thing to getting /fly for free is saving up grass and buying gift cards to upgrade rank, which is what I would recommend people who do not want to pay for the server but want /fly. This is essentially the substitute for a free /fly instead of everyone having it, you have to work for it and pay for it. That's probably what it should be to begin with: Something to work towards(though, the server would have the pay to get it path available as well.)

I've been convinced that there is a path to free to play/fly. Also, I agree that the lack of enforcement makes compliance with Eula is more of a question of morals or ethics than a legal responsibility.

 

The server is EULA compliant and most people that mention the EULA neither understand it nor know how Mojang/Microsoft handles the enforcement. They requested some changes in the past that have been made and approved the monetization afterwards.
