After a certain size, they do cause a noticeable hit on TPS. Also the scale at which several of these farms are at is kinda pointless because after a certain point, having more spawning platforms doesn't increase the rates of the farm, but DOES increase lag. Gnembon talks about this a bit in his video about his flushing mob farm design.

If you don't mind my asking - how did you arrive at the new prices? Because I was tempted to set up some farms in a singleplayer world and test the rates of them all to figure out how much money someone could feasibly make. (But if you two did that already, then I won't bother)

The possible new prices we listed are just based on what we thought they could be raised to to make them a profitable item.

Why not introduce a new economy system? Could create a plugin that automatically changes the prices based off what’s being sold to the shop. Essentially if pumpkins make up 90% of the market, then we lower pumpkins and raise the prices of everything else automatically. We had done it on a server in the past and it worked pretty well. Also. I’m all for a total eco reset.

Edit: it’s been awhile since I did anything like this. But if I remember correctly we assigned a set value (let’s say 100 to keep the math easy) then every item had a percentage of said value (if there’s 10 items, they’d all have 10 value. If there’s 20 items, theyd all have 5 value etc.) then if one item was selling substantially more then it’s value was lowered, and the remainder was redistributed amongst the rest of the items

I know this thread has gone way off topic, but again keeping rares seems unfair and only to benefit those currently holding rares, what of those who don't hold rares? Only have balance, or only have other valuable items etc?

The rares is the least of my concern. I’m more interested in my dynamic economy. I’ve used it in the past with good results. I just don’t know how the staff would go about figuring out how many rates are left on the server. In fact imma edit my response so people don’t get hung up on the rares

No issues there, just not a fan everytime people recommend a full reset but keeping rares

The dynamic economic setup could be interesting unsure on difficulty to implement. Assuming a system as players buy, the price increases, as players sell, the price decreases, this is quite a common method on alot of games with an upper and lower limit of course. Would the price represented be shown to a personal to a player, or shared between?

The way ours was setup was it would change the sell signs at /warp shop and was a representation of the entire server. so if their was a good diversity of farms then the prices would be roughly equal. My buddy at the time had wrote the code in roughly a week, then after months of testing it seemed to work really well. the farms that are super easy would be worth less, and those that are harder would be worth more

We don't need to dwell on this topic at all but I think it's good to note that if drop party heads did cross over after a reset that their values would likely change dependent on the new economy's currency value. They obviously wouldn't be worth 6 million + if people don't even have that much to spend. I don't think it'd be absolutely busted to have a couple commemorative heads cross over.

What are everyone's thoughts on giving all non-pumpkin/melon crops an increase in sell price?

A no brainer if we want some diversity in farms.

Definitely, but given the effort it’s taken to even get staff looking at this thread we don’t want to stop with crops. Building materials need to be changed and stalls added at /warp shop as well.

This thread has obviously been acknowledged with the price changes. Drogo isn’t sure how the new prices were decided but Drogo doesn’t think they will make any difference as they are. None of the new prices come close to competing with profit shops so be sure to keep commenting on this thread and the update thread or this will all be for naught.
Noobcrew has asked for feedback so please give it. If you all just post “ thanks crew” he may think it’s job done.

Drogo was going to start selling wool but it would have to sell at well over $1000 per stack and Drogo would be still be making a loss.

Drogo believes any decisions on prices should employ the following logic.

As people can make about $2500 per minute using profit shops, everything needs to be priced with that in mind. If it takes one minute to gather a stack of wool then it’s worth should be $2500. This should be the sell price at warp shop.

Drogo knows that sounds like an awful lot but who would farm wool if profit shops can make you ten times as much for the same amount of time.
And if your not selling it for profit and just want it to build, your still better off making money from profit shops and then buying the wool from/shop.

    Keep this thread alive.

EDIT:Wool is just used here is an example on how to set prices. Drogo isn't suggesting a price for wool. Drogo also didn’t consider dropping millions of sheep through lava. Drogo has always sheared his sheep and perhaps should use non-natural coloured sheep in this example.

I am on board with wool being added to /warp shop, but $1000 a stack seems insanely imbalanced. This would break the economy because of how easy it is to make a wool farm with sheep.

I believe the changes that have been made to crop prices are a step in the right direction. They obviously aren't completely perfect but we're thankful that our suggestion was listened to and now we have an open discourse about price changes.

What’s unbalanced is the income that can be gained from pumpkins and melons. Bringing the prices of everything else inline with them is the only way to achieve balance.
If one thing can break the economy by making one product very easy to get, then croppers already did this.

The thing with pumpkins is it takes 1 minute of active engagement to make $2500 using warp shop, $2500 per stack of wool, that would allow people like yourself who are able to afford sheep spawners, make reasonable sheep spawner farms that can automatically fill DCs of chests overnight while you afk your pumpkin farm, then as you return to sell the physical time and effort playing it takes is unreasonably low, being able to carry a $90k worth of wool in a single inventory.

so realistically to make money with the wool then becomes easier, as you afk the farming part, then just sell 100s of thousands in $$$ in just a few minutes when you jump online...

Bring items to cactus to the point where they are worth the same, potentially since they can only have 1 cropper per chunk regardless of what's being farmed, allowing newer players to create farms from both their sand and dirt efficiently. Or carrots, wheat, potatoes where they need to be replanted even using a cropper and take actual player intervention, they deserve massive price hikes. But nothing so significant as $2500 a stack should come from anything that can be made from spawners as that will benefit players who can afford them significantly, and new players not so much since they make the same be it from a profit shop, or manually get wool.

You also don't wanna bump up shop sell prices so much to the point where player shops can't compete. Player shops used to be one of the best parts of economy but with warp shop and sell prices being way easier to make money it's making player shops less common and pointless. Sure trends fade but I miss when everyone had a shop and actively traded goods for money.

Wool was only an example used to explain the logic behind how to price items.
    As Drogo said:
"IF it takes one minute to gather a stack of wool then it’s worth should be $2500" Key word being IF. If it takes 30 seconds, then you price it accordingly.

Basically what Drogo is saying, items, ALL items should have their prices based on how long it takes to gather.

Perhaps Drogo should have used a non scalable example, like fish or wood, something that can't be up-scaled by spending money, but purely restricted by time.

Ideally we want to get back to this, if it can be achieved. The issue that has been created is that the easiest source of income is one that no one actually needs, it's only ever going to be sold, or bought cheap to sell at /warp shop.
And because it is so easy, it's often quicker run the profit shop for 30 seconds and buy what you want from /shop than to actually go looking for player shops with cheaper prices. In the time you would normally spend asking or looking around shops for prices, you could have bought them from /shop with money gained from profit shops.

Drogo has said a few times, that ECO is now just a creative server, with the need to spend a few minutes a day selling from profit shops.

That would have to come from a total rework, and increase in the buy and sell prices of those materials in /shop to a point where they are slightly more expensive than what most people see as acceptable, so they are encouraged to use player shops again
