How do you change text color and font and chat

I see that people are able to type in different colors and size of text and was wondering how you do that?

 

If you mean in game chat, look at the reply from 52Phenomenon. If it is on forums, read this:
Above the text, there is an A, this changes the colour.
The A with 2 arrows changes the size. The a->A is a change of font. Hope this helps

Here's a visual guide which might help a bit more. The codes at the bottom won't work in general chat to avoid spam, but will work on things like island MOTDs (I think) and on pet names.

 

With Holographic Displays, anybody with permissions to make a text display (ie, Operators) can use &u for rainbow. Pretty sure it was suggested to Mojang a long while ago (around 2015?) but was never implemented

If it's on forums, you can change the font, text colour and text size using these 3 symbols on the top of your reply box:

 

As 52 said, you need a rank to use colour codes in chat. However, colour codes also work on signs and you do not need a rank.

 

Heya people have responded to you in regard of in-game but seen as you mention size I presume you're talking about the forums page and where you can reply to other people.

You should see this bar at the top of your comment box.

Key:
↪ B bold
↪ I italics
↪ U underline

↪ A with line under changes the colour of your text
↪ A with arrows changes the size of your text
↪ Two A's changes the font of your text.

Make sure that you highlight the section of text you want to edit for these changes to work!
