Hello all, I often get asked by people "who made this mapart?" and I find it almost impossible to give an accurate answer most of the time, simply because there are so many. Is there a map art library I can consult on anyone's island with the name of the creator? If not, would anyone like to collab and make one? Thanks, GAMER PS Please help me identify these two and where to buy them(asking for someone who is too lazy to make a forum account)
The flaming cat is LadyAnkie ’s as I remember her advertising it as soon as it went on sale. Not too sure about the lion one; I have a feeling it’s KingJonSnow ’s but not too sure on that one.
The lion was a limited map art made by BlueTags I think, I bought mine directly from him. I'm sure there's been copies. . The second one is by LadyAnkie.
Termsy has a lot of maparts im not sure if he labels them, but I dont think he has many of the older maparts. _Ashleyy (I think thats the username, sorry Ashley) Also has a good collection, but again not sure if they are labelled. A library would be good, but it's expensive buying large quantities of MapArts and you probably couldn't get hold of some of the "older" maparts as their creators are less active.
Good to know, I had my suspicions on them. Apparently we should shun them now because there isn’t any rules against this currently. #Justice4Creators
if i create a mapart that has “already been created” but i own full rights to the image then start selling it, is it considered re-selling?
In my point of view, reselling a map art or recreating one is fine. However, if the map art has already been made by someone or you are reselling the creator's map art, you should have at least the decency to credit the original creator. It is kind of frustrating when you make original map arts and find out that someone has been secretly re-selling the map arts you made without giving any credits. Anyone agrees? Cheers!
If the map creator just made a map art of a random image they found on google, then anyone could produce the same map art as them and it would be indistinguishable from the other persons map art (unless one creator added a signature). I reckon, in this case, using a public image to create a map art and having that copied/recreated isn't really breaking any rules, it's just utilising publicly available content in exactly the same way the 'original creator' of the map art did. However, if the map art was an image of a custom artwork that is not on the internet, then copying this would be stealing. For example, the only map art I ever made wasn't a google image, I drew it myself because I was bored. If someone copied this one, I would be kinda annoyed. In summary, if its a map of something on the internet, stealing it isn't really punishable. If it's a custom art/drawing that isn't publicly available, it's stealing. (Just my opinion)
Just to add my opinion, I have made multiple maparts on the server and the frustration that someone comes along when someone takes what you built (whether or not the original image is public) and sells it for their own profits is just plain rude. If they made the mapart and it is identical, fine, but i'm the one who built the mapart island(at cost to me for expanding), i'm the one who chose the image and had the idea, and i'm the one who placed all the items to make the mapart. Don't you dare take what I made and sell it as your own. I 100% understand if someone made the same mapart, they made their mapart island, they placed the items etc, and it's the same mapart, no problem at all. But my idea counts for nothing? my money for expanding my island counts for nothing? Is it really fair for someone to buy my mapart, copy it and sell it as their own? Make profit off of my work? No. In my opinion, no. In my shops I have signs all over the place saying not for resale, but as it stands this server wont accept suggestions for rules, so we cant make it a rule to stop this happening. In the words of staff "It's up to the community to shame the people that sell others maparts"
