Why do you think you should become a staff member?:

I've always had a fascination with interpersonal interactions. I joined the Skyblock community in 2013/2014, and I've had an interesting go of things exploring all the different aspects of gameplay possible, including survival, shopkeeping, building, rares trading, and, more recently, casino management. As such, I've had quite a while to grasp the workings of the server and the roles played by both the staff and the player community in making Skyblock work. After interviewing a few staff members on their personal modding experiences, I was inspired to apply once again, after having suspended my old application in order to finish my college apps.


That said, here are a few key traits which I believe qualify me as a suitable helper candidate:

Helpfulness:
60 to 70% of my time in game is spent hopping around from island to island answering questions and assisting new players. I keep myself aware of global chat as well, and am usually one of, if not the first, to respond to questions or complaints. Though this sounds a bit cheesy, I very much enjoy helping people, and routinely stop by at new players' islands to welcome them to the server with some basic items, tools, and a tour of the basic warps and shops. In this way, I take the initiative to assist new players with getting started, instead of waiting for them to ask questions.

Approachable:
I've often been described as affable and innocuous. Although I admit that my aversion to direct conflict may somewhat handicap me when dealing with difficult people, I feel that my inclination towards compromise contributes greatly to handling tense situations. My approachability also makes me a great team player, and I always value peer input.

Objectivity:
I pride myself on my ability to comprehend situations quickly, and to settle disputes fairly. Of course, there's the whole "it's impossible to achieve total objectivity" philosophical conundrum, but I try to remove bias as best I can when confronted with issues involving other people. My summer job teaching SAT(college admissions exam) material to high school kids my age has allowed me to practice active conflict resolution in a real-life setting as well.

In order to avoid boring you all, I won't delve into the more obvious cliches often seen on mod apps, like maturity and personal integrity. Instead, I will say this: By posting this application, I am affirming my mental and social fitness as well as offering my assurance that I will adhere strictly to professional expectations. I believe my conduct in-game, on forums, and on Discord speaks for itself.


How long can you be active on the server everyday?

As a first-year college student, my schedule is pretty hectic. I also do research in a neuroscience lab with fluctuating hours, so I cannot claim to have stable activity time daily. However, I estimate that I'll be able to contribute at least 14 hours weekly.

When on break, as I am now, I'm able to put in upwards of 8 hours daily as well.

How long have you been playing Skyblock? I first began on Skyblock Classic around the end of 2013/beginning of 2014. I took a 1 year hiatus in the beginning of 2016, and another months-long break in 2017/2018.

Have you ever been banned in the past? (Forums & In-game): Never.

Do you have any previous moderation experience?: Yes. I’ve run multiple small servers in the past, between 2013 and 2016, mainly for friends and classmates in middle and high school. I’ve also had staff experience on a larger prison server, but the rank I held there could best be compared to a ‘Helper’ on Skyblock. I have limited experience with plugin configuration, but I’m familiar with the in game commands for most mainstream plugins.

I've done intramural congressional and parliamentary debate in the past, and have acted as a moderator/judge in that practical capacity as well.

Gamer, you are active and you take pride in the server from the way you act. I do not believe that you act immaturely as stated in a previous post, and I see you helping out often in the chat. I like your friendly approach to players that are new, as well as players who are regulars on the server. The fact that you are a relatively old player gives me the impression that you are well known on the server, you are experienced and have a rough knowledge on how the server works on a day to day basis.

In terms of your application side, it all looks great and neatly presented, as well as well detailed. In fact is was very well written in a nicely professional manner that is comprehendible. It’s great.

I see you on most of the time when I log in, however I think your activity on discord should improve as I dont often see you as much. The same goes for forums.

I thank you and admire you for your willingness to confirm that I am indeed the right person you're accusing; not many people are responsible enough to take this step. If I do turn out to be the right person, please give me his discord and I'll go talk to him, as I'd like to get to the bottom of exactly what was said which upset him so. I have very limited interactions with him in-game, aside from answering his questions occasionally.

 

Support, you help out a lot, also you are tolerable to repeatedly visit me and pick up cobble, wont happen anymore as I had the laugh. You have the skills and patience to become a good member of the team.

Big support! You have been super nice and helpful every time I’ve talked to you, and you are always helpful/polite in the public chat.

 

Neutral, however leaning towards support. I see you on a lot, almost every day, and we both maintain a good friendship (this is what i feel), and you also maintain it with the rest of the server.

I do know a few things that you can improve to get you my support;

If a player is going at someone in chat, tell them to stop, not do the same to them. Usually it worsens the situation to where everyone starts going at everyone, and it’s next to impossible to fix until someone changes topic. (Don’t escalate the topic, try to calm said person down. From time to time I don’t follow this rule as I’m generally seen as toxic, being from CS:GO HvH and anarchy servers where the only thing you see is toxicity. However this isn’t about me so I’ll continue).

You might find the jump from player to helper a lot more difficult; I know that on Redstone’s first day (sorry), he was pretty overwhelmed when he woke up to 80-some messages and reports or whatever in his mails and stuff. One of the reasons why I don’t apply for mod myself (excluding the fact that I have 3 major bans on my record).

Finally, improve your activity on the forums, but mainly the discord. A lot of players head to discord for quick contacts with mods/helpers, and it doesn’t have to be a lot; being active in chat or in VCs, or even just staying online, helps heaps when your a mod. Keeping discord open in the background can use quite a bit of performance if your computer is slow, but having it open on your phone or something is useful too.

A thing that’s very commendable about you, however, is that you’re extremely humble. Often giving back gifts that you are given, and when you were upgraded to Skytitan you said you still wanted to be looked at like a Skygod. Literally nobody says that.
