Hi, as you all are aware Skyblock has in recent days been overrun by spam and bot accounts. Here are a few things I suggest should be implemented to reduce the amount of spam. Add a very short cooldown period after a message is sent (for example .5 second) Restrict new players' ability to chat (for example, until an island is created) Restrict certain kinds of symbols Do not allow chat directly near spawn -WeLuv2Eat
No support. just not worth it in my opinion. How is banning @ and # going to stop anything? Would just make players who use those characters suffer. I type fast as well, so getting a 15 minute mute for sending 2 msgs back to back would not be fair. Needs tweaking before i could change that answer.
Nearly all messages sent by the spammers in recent days have included those symbols, that is why I suggested that. I could see the threshold for a mute needing to be more than 2 per second, but even legitimate players imo shouldn't be talking that fast. Thanks for your opinion.
Wait so I can’t say #frxn4helper or #bert4mod I think this system can be very bad for people who type a whole sentence into shorter bits like me yes it could get spammy but not to the point it’s bad. what we really need are more moderators who are on actively to moderate the server No support
How would a system that limits players to 2 messages per second negatively impact anyone? It is nearly impossible to send 3 messages in 1 second. Thanks for your opinion.
I don’t like the idea of banning symbols in chat, people should type whatever they want. But Luv is onto something here. I like the idea of restricting new player’s ability to chat though. Hmm..but the thing is, sometimes new people might need to ask for help. Maybe new players should be put into a tutorial type of server where it’s quiet, so that they can learn how to skyblock first and thennn they can be put into the hub to select a server and even chat. That way, whoever wants to do spam bots has to go complete long tutorials on all 100000 accounts first and it’ll be too annoying and they’ll just leave instead.
This would be bad for new players, who might accidently do this and get muted for no reason, and because they are muted they cant even ask why they were muted. if players don't know how to create an island? I would suggest making a 5*5 area around spawn where players can't send messages. Whats the purpose of this?
The only reason I said to ban symbols was many of the spammers used symbols heavily in their chats. And also, what kind of new player would send 3 messages per second if they weren't a troll?
I think rather then banning chat or making chat harder pull out bots and make spamming them a bannable offense. I started playing just over a month ago in this server and do try to put money into it as often as I can to not be able to play or be stuck cutting the same log for two minutes with a fully enchanted axe is kind of trouble some. I understand we play with children even though alot of us are adults but there has to be limits set. allow us to make formal complaints with screen shots on the report forums and work something out from there.
No Support, Having chat disabled without islands still won't work, what if the people who need help creating an island?
No support. Cooldown could be useful for general spam prevention, but wouldn't have any useful outcome for bots. You could join in with 50 bot accounts, have 25 send one message, then have the other 25 send a message another .5 seconds later. This could be updated to match whatever cooldown you choose between messages to give a near constant stream of messages. Restricting players chat until an island wouldn't be advisable, because many players have a bunch of questions as to which island to choose, and how to create an island. The resources to find these things out are available for them in spawn, but it's always nice to ask out in chat for some extra help. If you restrict symbols, they'll just stop using those symbols. Would only inconvenience players. Not allowing chat directly near spawn would also just hurt new players. Furthermore, the program that the most common spammer on our server allows him to move all players simultaneously. If you banned a certain area in chat, he would just move all of the bots forward a little when he joins. Overall, these very general solutions would only make spamming slightly more difficult, while making life for new players just that much more difficult. Bot spam protection requires specific bot spam protective measures, whether that be custom security setups from the Skyblock team, or outsourcing to a free or premium bot protection plugin.
non the the suggestions would help if I was a to be a spam botter -_- all these options could be worked around in like maybe 3 minutes lol probably faster
Literally none of this would work, I know from experience. Wouldn't work, they'd just have it set so that after .5 seconds they would chat, all it would do would cause annoyance among players. Not only would this seem hard to implement, you also have the point that BillOP brought up. This is just stupid, the bots will obviously just do different things, them spamming certain kinds of symbols are the least of your problems, I'd rather have them spamming that instead of "racist word racist word racist word racist word racist word racist word" Will not work, they will just start to move away from spawn to avoid this. Really the only thing possible is to give mods /mutechat (if they don't already have it), and hope that somebody who can ban them fast can get online. (even this isn't foolproof)
