Not receiving verification code

When I tried logging on to forums on my computer it asked me to enter a 2fa code. However I never received it. It is not in my spam folder. I tried disabling 2fa on my phone but I still have to enter a code. I also noticed I am not receiving any notification emails even though I enabled everything in alert preferences. I would like to be able to log on on my computer again

 

When I log in to the forums and it asks me for a verification code, there is a backup code. But that is also sent through the email. I don't see any option that says "lost your 2fa device?"

I've tried logging on multiple times with no luck.

 

I had this issue a few days ago, and I have found two ways to fix it so far. Assuming you still have access to the forums on at least one device, both of these should work perfectly fine.

First Method - Backup Codes

The first thing that you need to do is follow this link, and enter your password. It always asks for your password when editing your 2fa details, in order to confirm your identity. You should then see a section named 'Backup Codes' near the top of the page, as shown here.



Click the 'Manage' button, and it will bring you a page that looks similar to this one.



Each one of these codes can only be used once, and will cross themselves out when they have been used to bypass 2fa. When you are asked for your six digit code, there should be a blue button underneath the prompt that says something along the lines of 'Enter Backup Code'. Simply click the button, and paste in one of the backup codes. This should verify your account, and you will now be able to login to the forums, using whichever device you wish.

Warning​

Please keep in mind that these backup codes can be used by anyone at any time if they were to gain access to these codes. Make sure that you do not share these codes with anyone, and generate a new set of backup codes if you believe that someone may have seen your old ones. They do not expire unless they are used or regenerated. It is generally a good idea to refresh them every so often anyways, even if you do keep them in a secure place. I have already regenerated my own backup codes, so that these will no longer work.


Second Method - Authy

If backup codes are not an option for you, you may use an app called Authy to verify your account. This is essentially the same as getting your code get sent to your email, but quicker. Even when I am able to log in normally, I still use Authy for my verification process as it is much quicker. I have attached a screenshot below of what it should look like when you have set it up correctly. The codes refresh every 30 seconds. This makes it very difficult for others to get into your account, as they would not only have to know which code to use, but they would also only have thirty seconds before it was changed.



Once you have downloaded Authy, you should be given an option to scan a QR code to link the app with your forums account. Go to this link, and click 'Verification Code via App' to access your QR code. Scan it with your phone, or enter the secret, and you should be completely finished. It should appear with a screen similar to the first screenshot, and you will be able to use that code like normal. Just enter the randomized 6-digit code within 30 seconds, and you should be able to log in to your account.

For whatever reason, I logged in, and the verification page came up. I went to my profile page, and i successfully went there logged in. This seems to have fixed the issue.
