I have had different people in the past ask me if they are ready to be a mod, or tell me that they are ready to be a moderator. This question is more for everyone to answer for everybody else, not just me. I feel like it's important in this time of Mod Application Boom to consider what it takes.

So what makes a person worthy of being a moderator?

For example, here are some of my thoughts:
    • They must be at a good enough maturity level.
    • They must be aware of the rules and illegals on both the server(s) and forums.
    • They must be active on forums and the server.
    • They must have filled the requirements.
Note: Please keep in mind this is a discussion. I would much appreciate if we refrain from directly picking-on or being rude to others in this discussion.

Mods pick other mods, they have to have been here for a while, and prove they're mature enough for the position. They need to be helpful and active, and over all responsible. Now with moderators choosing other mods it's going to be leaning on the bias side, but still picking them if they believe they're ready or not.

I'd say if you're mature, meet the requirements, are active both ingame and on the forums, and are immersed in the community you have a good chance at getting it.

Also, a quick note. I am making this thread in hopes to be a help to those newbies and those aspiring to be mod know what it takes. The job of a moderator isn't easy, I haven't had personal experience myself with being mod, however I have friends that are moderators. I hope this helps those who are wanting to be mod. I personally had someone recently tell me that they were going to apply to be mod, and in my opinion, they weren't ready yet. For the sake of being respectful, and keeping this person confidential I will not mention their name as I don't want to pick someone out of the crowd so to speak. But I hope this helps those who are wondering.

There are many great people that you will find on skyblock who will be willing to help those who want to be mod know what to do. I am putting myself out there to let people know that if they want advice, I am willing to give it through private messages before a person applies that way they are better prepared.

Good point. I also noted that some people aim to be mod right after meeting the requirements. Going to be honest here, I am guilty of doing that and learned from my mistake.

That is great advice, especially coming from a person who does that themselves. Which brings me to another thought. I believe that a successful leader/mod would be one who leads by example. Zephyr in my opinion, you are a good example of someone who leads by example/practices what they preach.

Whoever deleted my double post, thank you XD. I was actually working on deleting it myself lol. Thank you mod.

I don't think you should be giving people advise or criticism on mod applications based on how yours went.

Mostly what you said is true, some people like Connor I've never seen on but he just had a good application.

Likeability plays a big part in it aswell.

Some people tend to set off people by being a bit harsh. Now you could be completely qualified to become a moderator but if people don't like you you're pretty much screwed.
I have seen it has improved over this years but it is still slightly a popularity contest.

This has nothing to do with staff being biased. It has to do with the player base having a part in picking the next moderator.

This is actually an opportunity for everyone to give advice and criticism, it's not about me at all. I know you don't think that I should be giving advice or criticism, but I would also that you consider that I have learned a lot from my past experience and I have been changed because of it. I am definitely not a perfect example by any means, however I have learned and I have changed. I hope that you see in time. PS: please don't call me a clown, thank you.

I totally agree with you, likeability plays a huge part, especially if you want to be successful in a position of authority. From what I have learned from my business class that I am taking in college, being approachable and likeable plays a big part and really helps.

NGL, I do want to be mod. But what inspired me to make this thread was someone that asked me if they were ready to be mod in a private message on forums. This thread is not about me, it's for everyone.

Boom! Nailed it. Yes, skill will definitely help. Love it man.

Yes but being likeable is also one of the most dangerous positions to be in.
There comes a point where you will become too much of friends with the people you're ment to lead, where they will stop accepting your authority.
This is where likability will actually kill you as a leader, as you will be friends with your people, but you're unable to lead them as they won't take your orders.

This is true. You must be approachable, yet firm in your decisions. I actually know 2 mods in particular that are a perfect example of not letting their likeability kill them.

Also a quick note to everyone: Don't be afraid to compliment people as well :D, especially the mods it boosts their confidence in their job. But please try not to pull someone out just to pick on them, and degrade them. This thread is an opportunity for learning, expressing opinions, and complimenting others if you feel like it.

Honestly it's just minecraft, no one came here for a learning experience or to grow as a person, the fact that people take it so seriously and invest so much time concerns me.

This is true. However, Minecraft (much like legos) engages the creative thinking part of a person's brain. So really, in a sense they are learning, learning to be creative. However, if a person wants to be a moderator they must know and learn these things. I think however that your comment is unrelated to the thread topic, and therefor my reply to your comment is off topic. I would like to try to stay on topic. This discussion is to answer the question "What makes a person ready to be mod?" not "Is minecraft a waste of time?"

That is a good quality, however one can argue that. If a person comes off as relaxed, some might say they are too lazy for the job. I believe being relaxed is a good quality, however being too relaxed can be detrimental.

Clarification: I feel like my intentions, and reasons for creating this thread were greatly misunderstood. I must emphasize that the purpose for which I created this thread was to help the community, and those wanting to be moderators to have an idea of how to tell if they are ready to be a moderator. This has nothing to do with me. My hope is that this thread is a help, it is a way for others to express their opinions regarding a position of authority.

I never called anyone one, I'm just saying the key to being a good moderator is don't be a dumb***

True, but my question is what is it to you. You are the one who said it, not me. What is it to you that makes someone a dumbbutt?

As far as I learned. Being a mod requires you to:
    1) be online A LOT
    2) be likeable in fourms and in game
    3) fulfill the requirements
    4) act in a professional manner because (assuming) there are little kids here and you have to respect them in a professional way. If you go on social media big companies, are active like every single day and have to deal with hate that some people bring. To tolerate the hate, you must act professional and have your punching bag (or person) ready to deal the stress
